Lighting fault
Hi all, I have recently bought a 66 plate Discovery 4 landmark hoping someone can help me with this problem.....when I start the vehicle there are no external light's illuminated when I turn the rotary dial out of park the DRL's illuminate which is what is meant to happen but in my case the rear tail lights and number plate lights illuminate also and remain on until the vehicle is turned off surely this can't be right....thoughts anyone?

Hi Dondiddy, thanks for the reply and welcome....so what you are saying is when you're driving about in broad daylight your tail lights and number plate lights are illuminated? I don't think this should be happening .there's a guy lives near me with a 16 plate Discovery 4 Graphite I went and spoke to him when he starts his and takes it out of park the DRL's illuminate but the tail lights and number plate lights do not and surely that's what should happen?

Could be the previous owner had the lighting config changed in CCF to Scandinavian (or similar) so the rear lights come on with DRL. ?
Its not illegal, and IMO should be the way that all DRL are configured (why be seen from the front but not the rear in the daytime) and so long as there are no other issues caused by the lighting look on it as an enhancement.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Checked mine again on the way to work and the tail lights and number plate lights come on when you start it and put it in gear. Always been like that and I don`t look upon it as a fault as I would rather have the advantage of been seen from the back as well as the front!

Thanks for all the replies so it would appear maybe there isn't an issue after all but anymore feedback would be appreciated..

I noticed today that it’s not only our 2016 Landmark that does it, but also our son’s VW Polo. Start it up, and both front and rear lights come on automatically (with the switch in the ‘off’ position).
