anti theft question
does anybody know if when vehicles are stolen etc. do they generally still have to use the engine start button to start the engine once they gain entry . Because if they do can we not put our own hidden double pole switch in line with the start button.

You could fit a switch to any number of places which will disable the car. For example, you could fit it to the hp fuel pump (f13), starter relay, ign relay, etc and obviously hide the switch.
It won't be going anywhere, and I doubt thieves will bother to go looking for something buried in a mass of wires!! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

i can imagine stopping the fuel pump and a other items may cause a few fault codes. Was hoping disabling the engine start switch circuit might work without causing issue , and as long as they dont start the car through obd etc.

Fault codes are just that, a code or a report, and nothing more. They don't have any adverse influence in themselves and so once you flick the switch back it will start without issue. Stored faults do not affect operation if the "fault" has been rectified.
It doesn't matter where you decide to fit a switch, because every electronic circuit is monitored, so a fault code will be generated but harmlessly!
