start stop still not working |
|
The start stop has not worked for some time although it will kick in now and again so seemed very much like battery problem so I thought I would change the SS battery.I took it to my local independent who fitted and programmed via the OBD 2.However it still does not work and he says it shows no faults.Where do I go from here ? it's not a major thing but I would like it working. Thanks malc

That happened to me. Intermittent... I kept charging batteries, didn't do anything. Changed both (due to age of vehicle) but still didn't work despite the vehicle being programmed that it had new batteries. This next part isn't the help you want as sadly I cannot remember what they did but my local independent then had their 'young lad' who is the electrical guru look at it. He found that there was another function needing telling the batteries were new.
It now works when the batteries are charged up/on longer runs and there isn't too heavier a drain on the system.
Bizarrely enough, my last D4 (MY16) had poor stop start and the main battery went, the AA changed it and did all programming the new battery to the car and for the remainder of it's time the stop start worked without issue....
MiD Engineering near Wantage, Oxford sorted mine if you wish to contact them for some advice?

You need to check voltage of both batteries.
My issue was and is the main battery of which the voltage drops, which it does when parked up.
I would say that my car needs at least a 1 hr run to charge the main battery up to a level that the ss will work, and that’s with a new battery 3 months ago, but only used a couple of times a week.

My 2015 D4 needed a software update when the S/S stopped working as it should do. It was done by LRA from memory. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I wish mine would stop working! Sometimes I forget to turn it off and it annoys me greatly. I believe it does more harm than good, especially when you consider the short period of time it actually turns off for. Rob

I find it odd when I’m sitting at traffic lights in the Toyota with the engine running. It’s the only one of my cars without S/S. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Could try the known problem with the dual battery isolator thats situated in the stop/start battery tray. There was a LR Bulletin for this for vehicles upto around mid 2015 IIRC D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

Absolutely, I'm generally pretty "green" with regard to recycling, avoiding waste etc.., but S/S can't be good for the life of my D4 which I intend to retain until it is at least 10 years old (someone please remind me from time to time).

Nope...New actuator if both batteries have been replaced and still no joy then this is quite possibly your problem as they were known to fail upto mid 2015 apparently. D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

If your main battery is 5 years old , that will be why your stop /start isn't working. I had the same problem. Don't forget the battery reset after the swap to tell the car it's got a new battery.
Cheers Gary
