Intermittent, but mostly won’t start. They thought they had nailed it with a broken earth lead that appears to have solved the corrupted display, but sometimes it still will not start, with lights galore.

Given the recent history with water ingress it's quite possible you have some level of damage in the CJB.

If the immobiliser problem is sorted, what fault codes are present now when it fails to start and the dash lights up?

Immobiliser problem is not sorted.

Sorry... ignorance - what is the CJB?

OK sorry, I see it was the dash power that was sorted via the bad earth. CJB = Central Junction Box (behind the glove box)

What codes have you now?

Ah thanks.

I do not know what codes are showing - the car is at the garage and I am at work. They tell me that they consistently see the immobiliser lamp flashing. I am going to guess that the codes are probably still mostly CANBUS communication errors, but would have to get over there with my IIDtool to check.

Meanwhile in their own time they are going to dismount the Instrument Cluster, and call me so we can check it over. I would rather have paid for this effort before agreeing to send to Land Rover...

If they're taking it out there's always the option to send it away for testing / repair.

Indeed, but remember I am in Switzerland and the only reputable repairer I have come across on the forums is in the UK. I am hoping that maybe we can spot any dry joints, or just reseating may help. I am clinging optimistically to the fact that the intermediate fault (vehicle started but functions limited and hazard lights flashing) cleared when cornering.

Update: the garage had removed the Instrument Cluster and invited me to take a look. In discussion with them it turns out that they know a reputable company who indeed recondition these modules. In a phone call the company confirmed that they have experience of problems with LR3 modules so it is being sent to them poste haste for testing and (I hope) repair.

Thanks to everyone for your assistance thus far - I will update when I know more, hopefully sometime next week.

Solved!

The reconditioned Instrument Cluster was returned yesterday and refitted. Problem solved.

Thanks again for the suggestions - these problems are tricky to diagnose and it was all too easy to fall into traps of self-persuasion.
