Thanks for your informative answer.

The would be thief can't program a new key to work with your vehicle if they can't access the OBD port ot the port is disabled in some way (e.g. removal of power or CAN lines) Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green

As per GLRs answer.... what it will do is power up the thief’s key programmer which makes him/ her believe their device is connected to the vehicle...however the programmer will not be able to communicate with the necessary CAN networks .... so the thief will move on thinking his device is faulty or he needs a software upgrade...
If he plugs in and his device doesn’t power up as such then he knows it’s something on the car which is switched off.... you can always get power on the obd circuit!
In reality both will likely to move on to the next vehicle unless they make a concerted effort...
This is why you have to put layers of security on vehicles not just rely on one device..

Morning to everyone been thinking (Yes my brain hurts),So would it be possible to disable the power to the obd port and fit a hidden power switch
This is a far easier way of what I think you are trying to do...
Unplug the obd and plug this into one end of it... thief comes along and still gets power to his key coding device but for some unknown reason the car won’t communicate with him...
This seller does two other types one which duplicates the obd socket so you can hide the additional one elsewhere...
the second type has an alarm siren function if anyone plugs into it.....
If a thief has been able to buy a device to access the vehicle's key security will he/she/it not have become aware of this gadget and simply pull off the panel and follow the wire to the real port?
Perhaps some sort of key operated lock would be better security . . . ?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

We had this type of device fitted to our work van fleet but turned out to be a nightmare with lost keys etc.... they do do numeric code types ....
It is really about extending the time it takes to have one away... all can be combatted... however in my Cul de sac there are 5 different late valuable Land Rover products... I am fairly confident that of the five parked in the street mine is probably the safest....
As previous it’s about layering.... disable easy locking, fit immobiliser, fit obd lock and then track it....none of which is reliant on the OEM platform....
Some on here we say don’t bother and that’s what insurance is for.... personally I don’t want the aggravation or make it easy for the thieving to have my hard earned cash away...

If they can't start it, they can't drive it away.
A simple switch hidden away that cuts the circuit that tells the car it is in P, and that doesn't affect anything once the engine is running is a simple and cheap way to protect your car.
I've done both my LR cars for less than a tenner the pair.

I highly recommend the 'Autowatch Ghost' which is an excellent system as the final layer of defence.
Unless the correct sequence is entered via the existing controls the engine will not fire up at all.
It is a system which is embedded within the vehicles existing software.
It isn't going to stop the vehicle being broken into but without a full lift it isn't going anywhere.
Guy in the West Midlands who fits for JLR dealers in that area is excellent at fitting them.
I paid £450 fitted and am very happy with it given the value and risk of theft to my vehicle.
Happy to DM details.

Don’t forget to unplug it prior to service though...otherwise the dealer will be scratching his head for hours!
