Any clues? Transmission "oil", engine oil, maybe power steering fluid ?

Where have you seen the evidence?

How much oil is in the engine?

How fast is it leaking out when running?

It’s below minimum, so I have told him not to start it like that.

Oil pump was changed about 1 month ago

Nothing is in the engine oil now dip stick dry

About a litre under the car

I’ve got some oil on way now to fill up and then park up with trailer hitched.

Then get under and look

If oil comes out while you are filling it up, then you shouldnt move it.
Could be as simple as a sump bolt ? in that case

Filled up oil

Reversed in to drive way

Looked under and can see oil dripping out of the escape hole under cam belt casing. And it’s slowed down leaking now engines stopped.

Engine is still driving... is this safe to say it’s not a write off?

Going to take skid plate off and I guess strip it down again

I did have air con on full blast while driving up hill with 3.5 tonne trailer loaded. Friend says that could be pressure causing seal to go on pump rather than crank seal

You just need to keep the faith I guess.
While going up hill there should be plenty of oil in the sump.
What’s coming out the seal is what’s sloshing around hopefully.

You will only know it’s not scrap when you have done 250 miles or whatever without the engine knocking.

Some oil pumps had a fault with an Allen key bolt coming loose
