Help with diagnosing IID logs fueling/limp mode on accelerat
Hello,
Just joined this forum after recently buying a D3. Have already had much help from it before joining it, seems this forum is the in the top results every time I Google something D3 related
About my issue,
D3 2.7tdv6 with auto box going into limp mode on heavy acceleration. Easier to trigger in higher gears and uphill. It has recently had a new LPFP, fuel pressure sensor and fuel filter. On regular driving the car runs ok, easy to start.
The fault codes are
P2290 Injector control pressure too low
P0087 Fuel rail system pressure too low.
I'm suspecting HPFP but pressure seams to follow rpm so I am not sure yet. If you know what you are talking about please have a look at the logs below, 3 instances og limp mode on acceleration. Notice the increase in RPM just before limp mode without a gear shift or change i accelerator angle. This during small uphill so not a sudden reduction in resistance.
Any help is much appreciated.

Have just cured our troublesome D3 with a 2nd new hpfp, seems the 1st replacment pump was faulty luckily still under warrenty.

It was the previous owner who did it at a Land Rover dealership.

You have the same exact symptoms and fault codes as I had last year. A new HPFP was the answer. I bought a refurbished used one with 12 months warranty for about £350. But be aware that there was a change in the design of the pump with the Euro4 engine introduced in mid-2007, so make sure you get the right one for your vehicle.

Where did you buy it from? If it was Ebay, do you remember the Ebay store?

Can anyone explain the increase in RPM on the logs? Is that causing the limp mode or because of the limp mode?
I have decoded my VIN and found that I have the Euro 4 engine.
Any suggestions on where I should buy the pump (HPFP)?
So far the best price I have found is a Ridex Remanufactured from Autodoc.co.uk for £620 assuming I send back the old one. Then I might as well buy a new one from Island 4x4 for £715 which I have had good experience with in the past. It does not seam to be many refurbished Euro 4 pumps around, most shops are out of stock online.

Before ordering the HPFP I checked the low pressure fuel pump as advised and the pressure is low, so is the current draw. 2,5amp and 3,5PSI on idle with a fresh fuel filter inn with warm fuel after a test drive. That was with a marginal pressure increase since swapping the filter.
I confirmed with the previous owner that the LPFP was swapped in June 2020. The pump was bought at Island 4x4 and fitted by the local Land Rover dealer.
I bypassed the relay and it is pulling the same current. Is there anything else I can check electrically or otherwise before ordering a new pump and pulling the tank?

At idle with a good pump and an ok fuel filter (as this will drop the pressure slightly from the regulated 0.5 bar / 7.25 psi on the tank side of the filter) the pressure should be over 0.4 bar:

Thanks for the input.
The fuel filter is a Britpart one. After changing it the car can do harder and longer pulls than before so I dont suspect the filter.
I watched this video before doing the checks on the LPFP. Christian and Vera makes nice videos but on this one the figures in the screen shot is actually a little bit misleading if they are compared to the figures in Robbies post, they are with the engine off. Towards the end of the video they do it again with the engine at idle and 2000rpm. At idle it looks like they have 4,5psi and 3.2 amps, at 2000rpm they have 3psi and 3amps.
My car has higher pressures with engine off (around 7psi) but lower values on idle (3,5psi) compared to the values in the video.
The pump that was fitted is likely this one which is "OEM quality". The low amp reading may be because of a different electric motor so I am not sure if it is wise to conclude on that alone.
Yesterday I was leaning towards getting another LPFP but after reading more on the forum I have seen a few cases with similar symptoms that had to swap the HPFP after the changing the LPFP did not help. The cases I saw were dd disco and KostasA on page 5 of Robbies post.
Im going to do a flow test through the scrader valve with the engine not running before deciding.
Any other suggestions is much appreciated.

Must admit personally can’t stand britpart, but that’s only because I’ve had issues with the make in the past , , would fit a genuine fuel filter seeing there not very expensive in comparison to a new pump
In the same token don’t know what the LPFP oem island quality is like , have also read about fitting genuine again
However more knowledgable members will be able to help a lot more than I can as would hate for u to buy other items without getting some more expertise from which I know there are plenty on here

I would caution against spending more time and effort looking for a cheaper fix. If you have changed the LPFP and fuel filter fairly recently, I am quite certain that your problems can only be cured by a new HPFP. The make of the filter will not matter, especially when you have a Euro 4 engine with a fuel filter without tubes. It is next to impossible to fit this the wrong way (as opposed to the Euro 3 filter).
