But did you manage to get the door opened once as that's all the op needs. The lock can be sorted out at a later date
Yes. When the key was turned fully 45degrees from vertical the door opened easily.

Yes, I think so. Works every try this morning. My thoughts are that the WD40 has seeped down the cable or otherwise reached seized parts.
If the key already goes past the 45 degrees it seems unlikely to help.
Getting a measure of the main battery voltage still seems a good idea.

Hi All, just an update:
Have tried charging the key on the Oral B charger every which way, no joy.
Unless someone can tell me how to open the bonnet from the outside I officially give up!

Keep trying the door lock on the passenger side. I tried mine today and it was a bit stiff to start off but works fine now its lubricated.
Off the top of me head i think you have to turn the key clockwiseAndrew

Tried the WD40 again on Sunday, key just keeps turning 360'.

Have you tried checking the battery voltage.
If the key hasnt charge perhaps its not flat and its the vehicle battery.
As said before you may have to connect a battery charger to the starter motor or at least get under the car with a multimeter.Andrew

Just smash a window
or read back through suggestions given, like charging via the rear electrical outlet or getting under and connecting power via the +ive terminal of the starter

This saga has come to an end!
Tony from the AA tried to open bonnet with a wire through the passengers door, no joy.
Then decided to power the system through the number plate light. the sweet sound of
the doors opening.
If I had won the lottery I couldn't have been happier!
Many thanks to all for your posts and help.
