I bet that if we organised a soap box race on a sloping road, and did what the travellers are doing, we'd have Plod all over us telling us off.
If you used all the soap boxes for that what would we have to stand on ? I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Oh, good point. I'll need to take a folding work platform to stand on. It'll give me a different point of view too... Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The only real thing plod can do regarding it would be obstruct highway but it’s a as once you’ve removed them the offence has been stopped and no custody is going to accept them for it.
It’s not just travellers, you go to many an estate and you have kids running in after they have caused damage or similar. It’s a losing battle the locals will in actively make life harder and then the public think you either do nothing or go to in too hard. Sadly those that shout the loudest are being listened too instead of ignored2015 HSE Lux

There appears to be one rule for them and one for the rest of society.
When they turn up en masse here in Sussex for the summer, it's not only 'things' that go missing, so do the Police.
If we were to drive our vehicles and oversize caravans (no I don't own one) without insurance or tax, let alone number plates to identify who actually owns it, we would have our vehicles impounded.
Not them, they can carry on without a care in the world.
Once they left a site a couple of years ago, among the mess they left behind were items that had been stolen and dismantled. If the Police had been bothered to follow it up, they could have circulated the details they claim to keep as 'information' and taken relevant action.
The fact is, the Police don't have the appetite to confront them, the laws are there, but new laws need to be passed to make these people liable for their actions, after all, it us the rest of society that pay their wages, not a penny comes from the travelling scum that they are.
I'm sure society would in time be more acceptable of them if and when they conformed as the rest of us have to.

I'd suspect that cyclists involved in club sportives are highly likely to have their own, club, or association insurance.2014 D4 XS

Why shouldn’t they use the highway like this? They pay their taxes and dues like the rest of us. Oh, wait.....

I'm a cyclist and I have never turned up at an event that was unorganised and on a major road that we effectively closed without notice. Not sure I'd participate in an event of such tbh...

I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Very militant bunch in Surrey indeed. Family there tell me that in their area the Conservatives have lost control of the local council to no particular party but just to an increasing number of independent candidates who fight purely to keep housing development away from their patch.
I bet they cycle to work too..
