Agree, non of the vital utilities (Water, Gas, Electric etc) should be privatised. However, we do need the industries running in an efficient manner, not by a bunch of Civil servants who know naff all about running a business.

I made a similar point a while ago, but someone asked whether we should be nationalising the supermarkets as food is equally important as water and power. And telecommunications?

Rail companies ...'in an efficient manner' yeah that's gone well eh.
Anyway, I see they have finalised the Great British Railway staff uniforms.

The workers need to seize the means of production. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Haven't all of the workers been replaced with "colleagues"? Seems to be the way everyone is referred to these days by HR types etc., or have we moved on from that now? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I seem to remember that when services were nationalised you would traipse off to the gas / electricity company showroom and select from one of a few choices of cookers, etc., Almost everyone seemed to have a cooker of one of a few designs. Telephones were only legal if they were BABT approved (i.e., just those produced by the GPO) and there was a REN limit of 1.5 for each incoming line.
Ah, nationalised industries - the chance to be paid for reading the newspaper on the toilet all day or having a kip in a van...

Hasn’t reading the paper on the bog and kipping in the van been replaced by shirking from home?

Not quite. I still see the kipping in the van and running the clock down with the local authority workers.
I use to consult for the Council's property department (run by Capita) and the lift engineers would be asleep most afternoons, snoring sometimes quite loudly.
