I have a Springer Spaniel that will be 10 years old in October, she is just a pet not a working dog and I pay £103 a month with Pet Plan, maximum payout upto £7000 per year. When she reaches 10 the excess goes up to £130/claim and I have to pay 20% of the vet bill.
My 11 month old Cocker Spaniel is with Bought by Many and costs £34 a month and the excess is £90 which covers any claims within the year.
Seems like big money in pet insurance!!

£116 a month Animal Friends. Blame a 5.5k claim for front leg surgery (Elbow Dysplasia) when she was 18months, following that premium went through the roof. Problem is pet insurers wont cover existing ailments if you try and move insurers.
Like Pet plan, Animal friends settle directly with the vets so saves hassle of claiming monies back, good cover when it was needed.
