That's quite a good way to look at it Iguana and being an even older vehicle if it has got that far in life then it's less likely to happen probably. I'd be the type stress about impending doom and don't really want to spend all my classic car resto money on an engine rebuild on my daily motor to be honest.
I quite like the look for a disco 3 as well.

Plus if the engine goes bang it’s prob worth what you paid as a pile of parts.

Is it worth looking out for one that has had an engine refitted already IF it had been done by somewhere reputable with receipts to prove?
Now I am looking I've seen a few D3s and D4s with new engines fitted in the last 20k. They seem to be worth less money oddly.

Yes it's there to consider but also consider that your 12-year-old motor has survived thus far
This is exactly what I tell people when they ask why do so many of these engines fail. It's a very small percentage of the number made and if it was such a major problem, JLR would've pulled them years ago and have only just stopped using them.
Every engine manufacturer have failures, every single one.Joe

That's good to hear. What the typical rebuild Oval? I have just msg'd on your FB page last night out of interest so can plan. Worst case is i don't use it and end up with a fund to buy my next disco.

Well I bought one, actually HFM66's one off the forum.
Fingers crossed. Spoken to a few places and yeah it is an expensive job but isn't a given it's going to happen. Values of vehicles seem to be strong so concluded it's not affecting people buying them.
It's great there a places like Oval, QP and discoverydoctors that can at least give peace of mind that there are people out there who can do this job to high quality for a reasonable price and options for different budgets (rebuild, new engine etc)
