New owner - best route for Nav upgrade
Hello all,
New to the world of Land Rover. I spent a lot of my time researching the engine issues etc and am starting to look around at what the best route is for adding nav to the vehicle. My car is a base spec with the Harmon Kardon stereo. I would like to keep a lot if it as like OEM but can see the HSE option is a much bigger job than I want to get into.
So is there any plug and play options to put something Android auto into the stock screen location and plug and play into the stock loom?
If not I will just go for a phone mount with wireless charging and wire in one of those bluetooth receivers to stream spotify music. If any recommendations on this option please say.

you are thinking correctly, please dont try to go down the HSE route - the LR satnav is shockingly bad compared to google maps or indeed any other modern satnav system - honestly it is (much) worse than tomtoms were 15+ years ago.
Get a decent mount (Brodit are great) and some careful wiring hiding for a professional looking install.
As you said, there are various other options for streaming music too.
Save any money for a "real" D3/4 problem
Good luck!2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

Thanks Johnny. I shall head down that route. Ideally I'd like a wireless mount as my charging port is not always operational on the phone.
I've seen the Brodit but not sure a wireless option is available and also the Quadlock caught my eye however it needs a special case and I am not sure I'd use it my bike as have a garmin for that job.
Brodit certianly looks a lot more factory.Land Rover(s) : '10 Discovery 4

Brodit's are excellent, 3rd one Ive had in various vehicles.
I think theres enough space behind the phone on mine to fit a slim wireless charger, there is about 9-10mm space behind the back of the phone and the surface of the Brodit - Ive thought about doing it but TBH its not really a big deal to plug in the cable.
You can see my iphone cable hanging through the gap in the steering wheel, its tucked into the trim around the dash so hardly any of it in view - I suppose a black one would be more discreet - another job for the list!
Google maps (or any other satnav app) voice operated by siri, spotify bluetooth streaming also voice operated by siri.

That looks really smart and perfect eye level. I didn't realise thin wireless mats existed actually.
RE Bluetooth streaming is that via the LR stereo bluetooth option or did you get a secondary streaming device like this sort of thing

my cable just runs down to the cigarette lighter - but it would be very easy to hide one inside the dash, I did that on my D3 actually. Just make sure you fuse it safely.
My D4 has bluetooth streaming built in as I have the HSE, but in my D3 I used a similar device to your link, there are many on the market, just read reviews and choose one recommended by folks on this forum. Some of the cheaper ones can suffer from interference, but lots of people are using them without problems.
You can connect either via AUX or through the ipod connector if your Disco has one.2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

Thanks Johnny. I will check that out. I have the base Harmon Kardon stereo so not sure whether it has bluetooth streaming or just BT telephone.
I bought it on Friday (via the forum) but wasn't able to drive it back as had to go on my own. It's coming on a transporter to me tomorrow so I will be able to get my head around wiring etc soon.Land Rover(s) : '10 Discovery 4

Just update I've gone for the following
-Brodit mount
-Tom Tom sat nav on an easy mount pivot - goes in front of the stock screen and can be flipped down to see stereo screen if needed
- Pure Highway streamer into the Aux port. Need to get that setup better to come automatically. It is mounted inside the arm rest.
All works well enough and although not OEM it's a damn cheaper than one of those tesla style screens.Land Rover(s) : '10 Discovery 4
