Remember it’s an intermittent fault.
These switches are the traditional method I think.
When there is no pressure, it connects the wire to ground (via engine metal)
You shouldn’t need to locate ground points.
Just check the wire isn’t rubbing on metal anywhere

I would run another temp earth strap from the engine to the battery just to rule it out Andrew

aja4x4 I’ll whip a jump lead from neg to somewhere solid on the block to rule it out.
PeteK You’re amazing. Had a flick through all those links, lots pointing out wiring and water ingress and I did have a wet footwell the other day, but think I solved that (sunroof drains), so I’ll poke about connectors once I get under there too.
A halfway plug will give me a clue as to whether it’s switch side of dash side of the connection, and I’m so hoping it’s in the engine bay and not in the dash. SWMBO might frown if I start taking the dash apart… again…
For the filter, I can’t remember but the Mann box looks familiar. It was an Opie oils kit from memory, but would have been tail end of last summer. It possibly started the same time so I’ll maybe order up a fresh filter and a top up bottle and check/change it. I was very careful with the filter, followed all the destructions I could find on here and ol’ faithful YouTube (mostly LR Time). Doesn’t mean I didn’t it up though.
Edit: I’ll get at it tomorrow afternoon maybe, back is done in for now (firewood ) and there’s a couple of sketchy trees to sort out in the morning. D3 HSE - MY05 - Java black

Small quick test this morning (before being called to other duties).
The oil pressure switch does correctly report “off” approximately 5 seconds after the initial (stone cold, stood for 2 days, quite a hard) start, which I’m taking as a reasonably good time in comparison to LR Time’s latest video.
The warm run, disconnecting switch test will have to wait a little bit, as will the actual pressure test. I bought a cheap gauge off the bay and have it ready with the right connector on the end, ready to fight into that recessed hole at some point. I’ve got a feeling I’ll need flexi head open spanners, to match the flexi ratchets….
On an unrelated note, does anyone know how much battery drain the GAPIID might cause? I’ve put a wee flat wired cable from the port to the kick panel and velcroed it up inside there, save me kicking £400odd about while driving. Vehicle lives on charge a lot of the time, it’ll just be the odd night I forget or few days away from my charger here and there, but I can always unplug it if needed. D3 HSE - MY05 - Java black

Slightly longer test. Ran it up to operating temperature, disconnected oil pressure switch, used a small piece of wire to short the plug to ground while watching the switch in live values. It’s operating correctly Also my oil light is completely non-functional.
So low oil pressure it is! Hoping I haven’t caused any lasting damage. New filter and a top up are here, going to let it cool just a little before I pop the filter and change it.
Any ideas how much oil the filter will hold as it flies toward the trusty bin? How much will I need to put back in to replace it etc.
I’m going to work out how to attach a temporary gauge as well while I’m in there, awkward positioning!
Cheers! D3 HSE - MY05 - Java black

Update: Changed the filter, no sign of crushing or any untoward damage, was already a reinforced one, now it definitely has a Mahle. No sign of obvious metal particles but I’ve put in on cardboard to run out overnight and see if anything appears. Oil is quite black for barely 500 miles since the last change.
Managed to jimmy in my cheapo pressure gauge before changing the filter, started the engine and over the next few minutes it registered a big fat zero, though it is quite a high range so anything sub 25psi is barely going to move the needle. Lesson learnt, look before hasty purchases. Pressure checked with engine still warm enough to stop my hands freezing over in the winter winds whipping through the yard, so was expecting it to be on the lower end but zero is quite extreme. Not even a twitch.
Leaning back towards a wiring fault (out of desperation). Maybe I need to go back to the original advice/method and get it warm to hear the warning, unplug the switch and then continue driving. I’m hoping to still hear the warning and see the switch coming and going on the IID.
Should stick to the plan and not skip a step D3 HSE - MY05 - Java black

On cold start you should get 50 psi
When warm Rev to 2500 before taking reading
Diesels do make the oil black very quickly

Aye that’s the post with numbers I found.
Will try again tomorrow, frozen fingers dependant!
What a fight it is getting a gauge into that thread with all the bits around it. Maybe more expensive gauges have a longer portion to wrap a spanner round.
Considered a pipe socket, with the side cut out, but I don’t have one that fits D3 HSE - MY05 - Java black

Low Oil Pressure & Outside Temp (ice) warning beeps |
|
Had a sudden "low oil pressure" years ago on a V8 HSE very close to my garage. After several days in the dry garage the low Oil Pressure was gone, but when driving the car I had very frequent "ping" warnings. Took my a while to realise the outside temperature was jumping up and down like crazy (causing a audible warning as ice warnings).
Spend a few hours with the wiring diagram trying to figure out the common connection for both signals and realised it was the left side main connector.
In the end I installed new plastic & clips on both sides of the windscreen as water was leaking into the main connector.
So before you shoot the car or commit suicide - do not assume a english car is made for english weather
Good luck with your troubleshooting

Oh I’m certain it’s not made for English weather, let alone Scottish weather, let alone again the weather here in the northern Highlands, I’ve already lost a TCCM to what we class as “just a bit of rain!”
It’s now hovering between -1c and 1c, sleeting and blowing around 40mph most days so outside time is limited.
On a side note, pre-covid myself and SWMBO visited Norway in January, it was fairly constantly below -10c and honestly, it was warmer than any Scottish winter I’ve ever experienced.
Distracted.
I’ve so far only followed the switch wire as far as the connector clipped to the inside of the battery box. Nothing much to go wrong in half a meter though. More poking tomorrow, weather permitting. D3 HSE - MY05 - Java black

Mike said at the bottom of one of the posts I linked, water got onto a
Connector inside the car, on the drivers side, below the windscreen A pillar
And resulted in your problem
