Headlight - brownout?

Hi All

When I start my car the Drive Light comes on bright for about 1/2 second and then dims to a crappy brown red. It stays that way no matter what I do..

Checked wiring, earthing, etc and all OK (as evidenced by bright light for 1/2 sec) - Even went as far as totally disconnecting the Bullbar - no change. I have found some threads about MOSFETs but out of my depth.

It looks like some sort of control issue and the light itself is only doing what itā€™s told. (Bit like me and the wife šŸ˜)

I think youā€™re right about it being a control issue.

Two possibilities? The car thinks the main beam is on (the wifeā€™s VW dims the DRLs with main beam on) but also, Iā€™ve seen a lot of cars dim the DRL when the indicators are in use (flashing).

I donā€™t have a wiring diagram to hand but I wonder if thatā€™s a relay. Likely itā€™s done electronically.

I can see I havenā€™t helped here. Try Googling high beam or turn signal dimming, maybe.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Try swapping the relay for a known good one, they are all named under the fuse box lid.
Half power is always a concern as is where is the other half going, possibly cause of fire Crying or Very sad
Lights should not come on at all when starting, if they are on all the time highly likely a sticking or stuck relay, they are notorious for burning compressor out.
