Battery dates
Anybody know a good source of battery date coding?
My D3 is not used every day but when I start it up every so often it displays HDC system fault for a few seconds then clears. I read on here that the favourite cause is the battery.
The battery was in the car when I bought it but looks immaculate as if brand new It is a Platinum brand battery and has the code KB1E12. Jumping to conclusions I would read that as 2012 but it really does not look 13 years old. I do know that manufacturers jumble things up such that the code can't be read directlyA visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an MG5 EV

Mine used to do that with the old battery. It never let me down, but I could tell when the battery needed charging. Since I put a new battery in before Christmas, it's not done it.Richard

Hi,
have you looked on the top of the battery posts?
some have the date stamped into the top of the post, not sure if its the neg or pos or could be either
On this subject. I am using the battery from my wife’s Audi that audi condemned nearly 4 years ago.
I also have a small 12v Solar panel hardwired and fitted to the passenger visor. Soo far soo good. (That’s it then!)
The only thing I do aswell to ensure no flattery is when I’m going to be in and out of the car when loading or camping I leave a door slightly a-jar. Some thing I read on here. Works a treat.

That sounds like a neat way to keep the battery topped when the sun's out -do you have any kind of charge controller, and how do you have it hooked up to the battery? I've been thinking about attaching a panel to the inside of the rear sunroof and tapping into the towing electrics behind the rear quarter to achieve the same thing, on the fence about whether to get an eBay MPPT controller or just hook it straight in, accept the slightly lower efficiency, and hope there's a diode in there somewhere to protect the panel when the engine's running!
Quite right about leaving a door ajar as well - as I understand it, every time you open a door the car wakes up in preparation for being driven and draws quite a lot of current in the process. I tend to hook it up to a charger if I'm working on it for more than a few hours, and I try to fully charge the battery at least once a month, particularly over winter. Always surprised by how many amps it takes, and sometimes I wonder if the second battery box was put there more as a suggestion than an option... D3 2005 HSE
