Hello Folks.
I have a query regarding the effect the battery has on all the actions on a D3.
I've been doing a lot of short journeys over the last 4 or 5 years since getting a Yuasa 95amp/hour battery with a lifetime guarantee. During that time I've only made apprx. 5 or 6 long distance runs of around 4 to 500 miles. The other day the battery was too weak to start the car. Put it on charge for 24 hours and everything now singing and dancing. I've noticed that responses on all items are much improved. i.e. gearchange faster and smoother, engine response smoother and generally all electrics far more responsive.
My query is for all you that are in the know, does this seem a normal phenomenon regarding battery charge levels? In other words, it would appear that a slightly weak battery can have a very negative effect on all D3 applications.
I think I may have answered my own question. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

As you rightly say, your own question is answered.
I would say a five-year battery has given good service and it is time to change it. There is a trail of failures and strange things afoot on here all related to poor batteries, low voltages and dodgy alternators.
Change it whilst you are ahead ..... in my humble opinion.

I agree a monitor may be worthwhile. The CTX Battery Sense to which you have linked is usually somewhat over £40.
I bought a Battery Monitor BM2 about 12 months ago for my MG, for less than £20. I've been so impressed that I have bought three more.
You certainly need to top up your battery regularly if you are not using the car much.
Search here, but I would suggest a CETEK charger, with a plug wired to the battery for easy use. I fitted CETEK connectors to my BM2 Battery Monitors too.

Whilst I agree that a battery conditioner like the CETEC is excellent in principal, I had a bad experience with a CETEC when it completely overcharged a battery and ruined it. The CETEC was just out of guarantee and had not been misused in any way.
I now use a Clarke charger which will go up to 8 amp/hour on a discharged battery to start with and works it way down to a trickle as the battery recharges. I use it on my MX5, which does not get a lot of use and it keeps the battery topped up just fine.
With regard to the D3 Yuasa battery which is 4 years old now, due to the short journeys currently, I will give it a top up charge every few weeks to keep it in a fully charged state. Lesson learnt. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

My daily commute is 5 miles each way, the car likes to eat batteries, I trickle charge it once a week over winter, the charger is a 3.8a Lidl quality item! but it is over 7 years old, and I have had the D3 for nearly 7 years so it has done some work, Iirc the charger was 15 quid , the Exide battery was very oor not much over a year and it was going, the Yuasa is still on there must be two years maybe more so far.

I don't think the problem is with the Yuasa battery, which has a lifetime guarantee, but with the type of use that I've been giving it! I will now trickle charge on a regular basis to keep the battery fully charged as the short journeys are not compatible with keeping it up to scratch.
Many thanks for all your comments.
