D3.. car Vs Commercial insurance |

Hi, Sorry for really having used this as an info resource the last 3 years as instead of swapping to a D3 then I stuck with another D2. Anyway that has been written off so going to move onto a D3. Looked at a '07 commercial yesterday and phoned Flux who I have been with for years to get a quote. Larger tyres, side steps, snorkel and HD bumper. Quote came in at £2100 and it had to be a new policy. Also had a quote for a pretty standard 2007 HSE just mentioning side steps and larger tyres. I have 4 months left on my policy (paid£380) just have to pay an extra £147. Seems a big difference for the commercial, do you think commercials would be a lot more to insure ?

Yes. I’ve always found commercials more to insure. What you save on tax you end up paying on insurance. Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Think my 2016 commercial was less than £500 a year fully comp with trailer cover as well, so have a good shop around I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Back in the late 2000's I swapped from a D1 commercial to a standard D1 after the engine failed and I am sure there wasn't any noticeable change in cost.

Having swaped from car to commercial a few times I've found that not many insurance companies are competitive at both, a new policy is normally the best option.
Be careful regarding your NCB, some companies won't it used on a private car once its been used on a commercial.
