Vehicle Insurance

Renewed my insurance in the summer and have discovered that my insurance provider is claiming that the Discovery 3 is a high performance vehicle and is loading the excess by £500 on top of the existing £350. I'm not overly impressed with this and wonder if anyone else has experienced a similar thing. I was aware that Disco 4s with keyless entry etc were going to receive heftier premiums. I find it odd that they classify my disco as high performance but say nothing about the Audi Allroad 3.0 that I own. Very odd.

Are you particularly young, or had insurance claims etc?
My premium is about half of yours, with £100 xs. Who do you insure with?

I think you will find that this is more due to the horrific theft issues with Land Rover products at present..

Well this has finally bitten me… and a word of warning if you were thinking of buying a later JLR vehicle..

if you are considering buying a Land Rover product I would now being reconsidering.. or if you own a late one now it’s time to sell quickly before it bites you and your car is devalued to nothing…
I have been loyal to the brand for many many years and have four in the family…

I have just had my insurance renewal come through with Axa although I was already concerned reading people’s comments and having my cheapest Confused.com’s quotes come through in the last few days..

Axa previously have been brilliant at renewal time and they have always been cheaper each year than the other companies on Confused and Compare the Market etc.. hence been with them for many years..

I am 59 yrs old, a senior manager, live in Sevenoaks, with a clean licence and 20+ years no claim bonus.. last year my policy with Axa for my SVR for a 20,000 mile business use policy was £645. Today they are inviting renewal at £2420!

Whilst it’s a fantastic car can I justify this.. probably not…

Time to sell? If you were thinking of getting out you need to do it fast before values free fall…

Sounds like the late 80's or early 90's (cant remember precisely) when fast Ford's like the Escorts and Sierra Cosworths became uninsurable for many and their values plummeted due to thefts.
Values dropped like a stone quickly.

Late 80s. Insurance on my GTE went from £600 to unable to obtain insurance. Had to park it up on a drive for a while until the market settled and then on to TPFT at £400

My insurance for the following:

2022 New Defender D250 SE with a few minor additions
2018 Discovery Sport SE Tech
2008 Discovery 3 SE auto
2019 VW T-Cross
2007 Renault Master Campervan conversion.

All professional people, except 18 yo daughter (A-levels) who has the D3 and can only drive that car. The rest of us, 56,56 and 23 years old can drive all vehicles for business and leisure.

All vehicles kept on the road (quaint village) zero crime.

Total annual insurance for the above £8400 on multiyear with Admiral Big Cry

Renewal coming up so will see what additional pain is coming my way. Sad

Maybe because neither a D3 nor a Cayenne are in the stolen league of the SVR?...

I bet the 23 year old adds much to the price... we had to drop our daughter off on our multi car policy until she was 26. Made a huge difference to the price...

It's my 18 year old daughter and her D3 that added it. She only turned 18 last week and passed her test in October. Whilst we can all drive her car fully comp, the only car she can drive is her D3. She added roughly £4400 after selling her UP! for the D3.

How much is your actual annual policy? If its more than a grand or so then you're better off scrapping comp cover and merely taking the basic third-party-only.

I've done that and self-insure the rest, therefore so long as I don't destroy the thing in three years I'm better off just putting the cash aside in premium bonds.

Just had a letter from John Lewis Finance saying that, at the expiry of my policy at the end of the month, they won’t be renewing. No claims for many years, with nothing else changing…..

D4 is an MY2010 with circa 156k on the clock. Tesco and comparison sites suggest I’ll be paying around £400 to reinsure.
