Drop in Inter-cooler Shield
Looking at BCB's valiant efforts at cleaning his inter-cooler post some good time off road jaunts has got me thinking. Is it possible to engineer a drop in shield that would stop most of the crud getting into the Inter-cooler in the first place ?
Or is it not wise to restrict the airflow at all ?
Just thinking aloud...

APITA. It would be easier to put a plastic bag over the lower grill/intake.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

OK... just wondered. I know a cloth / floor mat can be used when wading but something to drop in and lift out pre and post muddy off road would be handy.

I made up a simple heavy duty plastic shield that velcro's onto the front and underside of the car, with a cut-out so that I can still get to the winch and recovery hooks. I only put it on prior to wading and deep mud, but it seems to work in keeping the intercooler and radiator clean.

See what you mean... was thinking more of an internal one that fits behind the bumper.

This is all very timely. I took my Mantec plate off last week (No Simon its not for sale!!) to clean out the crap and to paint it black.
Since I put the plastic shield back on, I'm getting 26mpg average, up from 23. Power seems better too.
I got a fair bit of crap out from behind it, but nothing like BCB's. Its got me wondering if the Mantec is restricting airflow
was thinking more of an internal one that fits behind the bum.
I've heard that ND has a tool for that............ The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

The airflow on the D3 (bumper slot) has a curved downward exit that obviously takes the air past the inter-cooler, just it also takes all the mud and crap the same way.
Not that I will be able to make one , but I will take a looksee over the next few days and see if it seems feasible. Must be someone on here capable of making one
