D4 fuel usage when idling?
Does anyone know how many litres per hour the D4 uses when idling?
A couple of weeks back I was parked up for about 4 hours with the engine running to keep warm (it was in the snow we had at the beginning of December!), but when I next filled up the real calculated MPG (not from the onboard computer) had dropped from the expected 23-24 to 19.

No idea. But the fuel does (I believe) cut off on the overdrive (ie when not using the accelerator when moving). So it could it be cheaper to just drive around downhill? Doubt it really though. I guess it must use a bit, else what's the point of stop/start?

From a dim and distant memory ISTR a “normal” small engined car uses ~1/2l per hour so I worked on the premiss of 1l/h if I got stuck on the Mway or A9 in snow. Basically always tank up in Perth so plenty of running available until the road gets cleared.
