A few days in Wales
So with the wife heading over to Turkey early to see the family I decided to spend a few days in Wales as an end of year head clearance, Camping in the D3 I’ve found a nice “wild camp” on the west coast for a couple Of days before maybe heading north a bit. There’s no itinerary or timetable for this trip apart from getting to the airport by the 30th so I’ll see how I go :)will be posting a few photos as I go so thought I’d start with a comfy one. The newly built fire pit is working a treat.

We’ll half a bottle of scotch in it’s been a good night. Listening to the owls and watching the bats.
Fires dying down so early night I think
Not as posh setup as yours DSL (I’d love one of those bivis) but cozey and what the D3 was built for

Many a happy night was spent in the back of the D3 campervan. Just enough room for one.

BBBBBBRRRRRRRRR, It was cold last night, even in the back of the D3, woke ok late this morning and warmed myself inside an out with a fresh fire, and a full tailgate breakfast
Went for a walk over the hills today, beautiful sunshine (still cold) and good views and just sitting down to Italian
Will probably head back tomorrow and get warm, maybe look at heading somewhere else at the end of the week2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Hi Forest. It’s a terrafirma 2m canopy (in grey to match the car…. obviously lol) with side wall costing £100 I’ve sourced a 2m lightweight tarp and put grommets on all 4 sides, so I can use it as a side wall for £13, first test of it this week and it’s fitted really good so may get another for the front. I’ve got a 3m tarp for the back, fitting to the awning and the roof rack to give me shelter while cooking at the moment but looking at changing that.
I’ve also fitted some left over led strip to the inside of the awning bracket left over from the kitchen refurb and got an adaptor to plug it into the 12v, worked out really well, just enough light to move about and read a book while being really low amps.

For the main awning? We’ll I’m 5’10 ish and have plenty of head clearance. You can probably raise the front another 4” or so but that mean any rain will drain towards the car. I fitted the brackets to the car as low as possible so the folded awning doesn’t go any higher than the roof rack as I know that fits in car parks but you can always fit them higher.

I’ll take a couple in the daylight when I get back tomorrow, it’s just a couple of l shaped brackets bolted to the cross bars for the rack.2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Looks like you’re out on your own ……. solitude in a time of national crisis, best way to do it.
Reminds me, I need to get out camping in mine, not done so for ages....... always on the road less travelled 🚧
