'TAILGATE OPEN' warning after latch replacement |
|
Hi all
I replaced the latch and cable following a tailgate stuck shut incident. The 'L' shaped bit had sheared and the latch itself was also sticky with bits starting to come off.
Having gone through the difficult way in and then replaced this stuff, the tailgate isn't closing particularly well and the car shows the 'TAILGATE OPEN' notice on the dash.
I have tried to adjust the striker but even on the most recessed position doesnt make a good job of closing and on the most protruding gives a really loose door.
I have also manually closed the latch with a screwdriver but the warning still appears.
Anyone have any knowledge for this? I am fed up of the horn beeping when I try to lock it already!

Have you tried lubricating and exercising the latch ? When I replaced mine, it needed greasing to get it working freely. It is working pretty freely already. Releases really well. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the white rubbery bit at the back of the latch. It seems a bit bigger than the one on the old latch. Mind you that was probably original!

Is it a genuine LR part?…... It does sound like something is physically different about it, a pic may help. Turns out that if you don’t reconnect the latch wiring the car doesn’t know what’s going on.

I was going to suggest you check the connector, but thought I better not
