Stop Start - illogical behaviour
When my car has warmed up, battery is charged, foot on the brake pedal at lights, the engine stops and the ECO light on the dashboard lights up. All well and good.
However, if I do handbrake and neutral, or even just handbrake and foot off the pedal to avoid blinding the drivers behind me, then the engine starts again. Doh! The car is still stationary and the only difference is that my foot is off the pedal. That behaviour seems daft to me.
Handbrake and gear knob in P will stop the engine again.
Is there anyway to prevent the engine starting again when I take my foot off the pedal even though the handbrake is on?D1 300Tdi - gone

There are 10 types of people in this world: Those who understand binary, and those who don’t.
I turned off the SS using the IID tool as I was concerned that on a sweltering day with much stopping in the motorway traffic the fridge in the caravan would not remain cool. A while later I tried to turn it back on again but it has just disappeared. I don't think I miss it.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
It looks at the brake pedal to say that you want to stop and it relies on a pressure threshold to start. If you then move the shifter to neutral and apply the EPB you can take your foot off the brake but if you’re in D then you have drive away release on EPB so you need to add brake pedal to keep the car stationary.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

My 2011 A8 did this, utterly stupid. Later 2017 BMW had fixed it so it behaved properly, I think this may be a 'characteristic' of the earlier designs.____

Is there another way of permanently disabling the Start/Stop without using a diagnostic tool, i.e removing a fuse? I always turn mine off on the switch but the light on the dash is really annoying and bright at night.1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone

Fit a lower amp main battery It can when others can't,

It is part of the emmissions system for euro 6 certification so cannot be permanently disabled . So you need to live with it ,personally I dont see the issue with it and very rarely even notice when its working.

I can’t see what is illogical about that behaviour?
The SS will restart if the brake pedal isn’t pushed. Total logic to me! It may not suit your requirements but it is logical.
If you click one to the left in neutral it will stay on won’t it? I’ll check later.A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Hmmm. Something must have been changed. On my 2016 model, if I stop, the S/S operates as it should. With my foot still on the brake pedal, I put on the park brake and put it into neutral, the engine remains off when I take my foot off the brake pedal. Foot on the brake and back into gear, the engine starts when pressure on the brake pedal is lifted.
