1 speed =‘high’ range only, and 2 speed = ‘high’ and ‘low’ range like yours, that’s all. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Well I suppose even with a just a high range, a means of transferring drive and providing differential to front and rear propshafts is still required, but likely to be smaller than a 2 speed unit. This is probably why a different rear propshaft ( ie a longer one) would be needed for the very rare 1 speed equipped vehicles. I doubt anyone in the UK ( apart from LR factory peeps) have ever seen one D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

maybe because if one or two speed its still a transfer box on a 4wd vehicle. Its primary funtion is to take drive from gearbox and split it to drive front and rear axles. Can be pretty complex in operation as in D4 or more agricultural as fitted in some pickups for example Nissan that still uses a chain and sprocket arrangement
