Latest DVD disk?
Hi. I'm a new member - just picked up my 06 HSE TDV6 Auto over the weekend. How do I know if I have the latest SatNav DVD? My system is not "aware" of several well established B roads in Ireland, and some new Motorways. Any help would be much appreciated.
Durrus,
Ireland.06 Tonga Green TDV6 HSE
take the disc out of the sat nav unit under the passengers seat...
See what disc number is on it
if YIW500200, YIW500250 then these are earlier discs which
do not have the latest Irish roads...the latest disc YIW500260 is the disc you want...that has the latest Navteq maps
If you can't get one pm me as i know i have 1 left in my desk but am now a man of leisure for a week so unable to sort till iget back to work on the 25th
NickTLO has left the building.......

the newest one ins't that good in Ireland....it doesn't do some of the less used / minor / roads / country roads.
I've tried mine both north & south of the border & it ain't that good....probable less good than a Tom Tom One.
Often you see the "arrow" sailing across a sea of nothing....
Question (for those who may know) is the disc by Navtec ?BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

LR Sat Nav
My experience of the built in system is that it's very very poor. The cheapest Tom Tom is about the same as buying an updated (and I use that term loosely) DVD. If you're thinking of buying a Disco3, I wouldn't put sat nav as an important feature. Invest instead in a Tom Tom or Garmin, spend your money on other features.
If anyone knows where I can get 'back up' DVD's I'd be interested. I'm definately not paying even Ebay prices (£50+) for a very mediocre Sat Nav info disc. Money isn't everything but it keeps the kids in touch.

I have both & there's no Tom-Tom comparison to the integrated D3 system that works with - not against the ICE / phone system.....also the larger D3 display better graphics are far superior to the cartoon like presentations on Tom-Tom / Garmin (however there are others that eclipse these)....having a power cable strung across the dash to make up for the pathetic Tom-Tom battery life isn't my idea of an ideal system + the delayed action Tom-Tom satellite acquisition just isn't what you need when starting off a journey or making a change mid-way.
There are faults with the D3 system...in some ways the Becker/Harmon-Kardon/Navteq Disco 2 system had some advantages in the form of usability - single button pushes got quick results & it went into street detail greater that the D3....& you could do this on the move
The D3 system disc "does" Europe but I would prefer greater local UK/Ireland detail.....
Maybe the fact that Toyota have gone into some cooperative with Tom-Tom may a sign of the times in a format war.....Toyota are rarely wrongBREXIT - done properly.

Nothing wrong with the TomTom especially considering its a fraction of the cost of the LR sat nav as an option. You can get a sat fix in seconds if you keep it up to date with the GPSfix updates via the web. Battery life is fine for 99% of journeys and routing a cable is easy if you really need to hide it
Oh and maps are updated pretty regularly (especially if you sign up for the free Map Share service).

er... there ya go. You just proved yourself wrong
I'd rather spend £300 than £1500 for something that works

I've got a new Tomtom 720T and it is the bollax ...aquisition time is under 10 seconds with QuickGPSfix (this tells the TT where all sats will be in the sky at any given time) ,POI's can be added at any time ..and you can make your own if you like, all traffic camera locations including mobile locations are updated on a weekly basis , it 'speaks'out the street names and names of towns and road numbers in the direction of travel....Sits lovely in the center gap with the power cable is completely hidden (if you know how) ...and you can have your own motor doing the 'on-screen' driving

I also have both. The LR unit in the D3 I find is good, but frustrating at times as even with the latest revision some roads are not there.
I bought a TomTom 520GO for the van, mainly for finding customers as I hate reading maps and for Bluetooth handsfree. the handsfree is Although it may be that I should RTFM from time to time, but the volume is poor and the pick-up option cuts the caller off .... I've tried using the FM output to help this problem, but does not play incoming calls via the radio. Again maybe I should RTFM
As for updates, camera locations and maps it is very good, although as mentioned above the cartoon graphics take some time to get used to.
