What do you do about a full size spare, in a tyre that is directional? Do you hope that if you get a puncture, it's on the side you have a spare for? Or do you all use the small spare, and hope you don't get a puncture during the winter?

As the spare would normally only be used until the punctured tyre is repaired / replaced, I'm not sure I'd worry too much about it. Obviously, if conditions are poor then extra care is required as grip will possibly be reduced on the tyre mounted "backwards". Some tyres are directional because of the arrow-like tyre tread, others because the tread blocks are sized and shaped differently for the inner and outer shoulders - I think the latter are more sporty road tyres, however.

I run ATs and they aren't directional so not an issue for me. My spare is a Grabber AT, however, and my running tyres are Pirelli AT+. Ideally, I'd have a Pirelli AT+ spare too but the Grabber is near enough unworn (from memory) so replacing it seems a bit silly to me. It will need replacing at some point, I suppose, just because the rubber will degrade with time.

The spare is a crossclimate. So very directional. Thought using it backwards would mess with something and cause more issues later on?

Think i might have to sell the unused crossclimate.

It’s nearly non-winter tyre season in Europe so perhaps I can go back to Zeros.
