D4 Towbar electrics change

Hi all,

I’ve read and read until my brain hurts so I’m going to ask a simple question, so here goes.

I’ve just purchased a 2010 Discovery 4GS and needed it to tow a twin axel caravan so choose this car for its capabilities at towing.

It came with a heavy duty towbar and electrics which the garage said the connections are behind the plate so ok, anyway. Finally brought it home and arrange to collect the caravan Saturday so didn’t want to be caught out so checked electrics and yes………. It’s a bloody 7 pin job so…

I’ve just purchased the following:

Invoice it says: Discovery IV (LED rear lights) 09/09 >> 13 PIN - Tow Bar Electrics - 29190507PF - VPLST0015

Sale site it says: LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4 TOW BAR ELECTRICS 13 PIN VPLAT0012 2010-2014 DEDICATED.

I’ve checked the side locker and the old 7 pin is connected to the connectors so it’s original fit so……

Can I just swop out the 7 pin for this 13 pin as I need it done Friday for the collection Saturday morning.

Thanks all.

Yes, exactly that, should be a 10 minute job, just make sure that when running the new cables that they don’t snag on anything…

Easy enough to do, I did the same when I bought a new van but to do it properly you'll want the rear bumper off.

Sorry guys I’ve changed the above a bit as I’ve noticed the following, no idea if it changes anything?

Invoice it says: Discovery IV (LED rear lights) 09/09 >> 13 PIN - Tow Bar Electrics - 29190507PF - VPLST0015

Sale site it says: LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4 TOW BAR ELECTRICS 13 PIN VPLAT0012 2010-2014 DEDICATED.

Just make sure that the plug connectors fit in the rear left hand panel, as they are different on a D3 as to a D4... otherwise it's two lengths of cable (and a small fuse holder) with a plug on the end (the hardest part can be trying to wire the plug properly as that always makes my hands ache!) Laughing

Also make sure that you have orientated the plug so that the cover will open on the recess as the cover will not open if you have it in "normal" orientation....

Lost me lol.

Also the above description says LED and the other says nothing just covers the cars year so….

If the harness is for LED is that referring to the cars LEDs or the caravans actual lights if they are LED?
