gap tool.
hi all fellow land rover owners. could anyone please advise on the best place to purchase a gap iid tool also i know it is locked to 1 vin number but i’ve read somewhere i could read and clear faults on my other land rovers. discovery3/RRSport/L322 any help would be greatly appreciated.

IID tools do come up on the For Sale section of this forum now and then.
If all you want is a code reader to cover a number of Land Rover models then maybe look at the Autel AP200. It is restricted to a make (Land Rover) and will read/clear codes on any model.

Hi, has anyone had experience purchasing from GAP Diagnostics direct?
I notice they ship from Canada and state that VAT is added at checkout, and the item will be subject to import duties.
Are we expected to pay both VAT and import tax? I Just wanted to find out what others' purchasing experience has been before diving in. Thanks

The customs and import duties are all over the place since Brexit... you may pay nothing or a lot.... I'd buy in the UK!A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

I've used your link and just purchased the IID BT Tool from Bell Auto Services.
In total it was £438. Delivered.
I notice on eBay they are selling for £500+
Secondhand ones are far & few between and the ones being exchanged on this forum are doing so at £360. then you have a £25 ownership transfer fee and + £50 warranty extension.
So buying new with a new warranty and without the additional faff of transferring ownership is a no-brainer.

that's the exact conclusion I came to and bought new also..... I only think they are worth 300 second hand but the market is always strong for JLR fault diagnosis!!
In all seriousness I have 4 licences on mine now (all paid for by friends and family) for their cars!
They are great.... you can now add all the options you want. I have done timed climate, heated seats and wheel, cameras etc etc. The list is endless.
A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

In short yes and you have to pay the entry fees - every time a customs agent enters an import into the customs system they get charged so, so do you - even if the item is zero rated for duty an entry still has to be made05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

I messaged GAP Diagnostics and this was their response:
"Hello We will not can we charge VAT. its charged by UPS upon arrival plus duty charges.
Cost is 399 that you pay us then you pay VAT to UPS."
They actually recommended that I purchase it through a local distributor and not from them direct, this is due to inconsistent charges being levied through local duty & customs control.
I haven't received my unit yet, so I will reserve comment on Bell Auto Services, but they appear to be by far the cheapest option if you want one new, without the hassle of transferring ownership and would like the full manufacturer's warranty. eBay sellers (including some well-known 4x4 stockists) are overpricing their units by as much as £100.

Bought mine direct and yes paid import tax/ vat before courrier would deliver.1996 Defender -died (now in landrover heaven😇)chassis to ashes , rust to dust !

Hi V8man,
round figures, how much import tax did you have to pay and did the courier change any levy
gov website states "phone us to ask" not tried yet but can not see it being a quick phone call
