smells hot and signs of water leak

Hello all.
Just returned from a trip to reading. On getting out og the car there is a strong smell of hot parts. thought it was the discs as strongest near the front wheel but on getting down to sniff I noticed some streaks of fluid on the wheel arch liner. Checked and it is both sides. Nothing obvious under the bonnet.
Any ideas what this might be or what to check?
Journey was about an hour and a half on motorways Didn't notice any warnings on the dash.

Any thoughts welcomed.

Fingers crossed it isn't something expensive as this car is starting to become a little bit demanding of late!!!!

So I was searching for anyone with a similar problem and found my old post!!

Car still smells "hot" when you get out. Its hard to describe but smells like overheating brakes and "dirty" if that makes sense?
Current journeys is only 12 miles on back roads so not being thrashed or massively heavy on the brakes.

Seems to be running ok at the moment, touch wood!!

Anything I should be checking or worried about?

If it smells like hot brakes, it could be a sticking caliper. Very common issue. Best cured with new calipers.

If you were mid DPF regen as you finished your journey then it can ' smell very hot' as you put it. Obviously check brakes as rrhool suggested first to be sure.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a DPF regen?

Definitely going to check brakes as I am certain I am due new discs front and rear shortly enyway.

DPF- Diesel Particle Filter.

It's fitted in the exhaust and traps the soot, when full it will regenerate It heats up ( Fuel injectors will inject extra fuel to raise exhaust temps) and will 'smell very hot' If it happens mid journey you may not notice although the exhaust note may sound a little louder but if it's mid regen when you stop then you will notice the temp.

An infrared thermometer pointed at your discs will tell you whether it’s a brake issue. Look to see if anyone is much hotter than the others.
I bought one to use with my pizza oven ( good excuse to own one).
Good luck sorting
