That doesn’t apply to people entering this country illegally.

There is a system to which you apply for asylum, if it’s not fit for purpose you change it.
I don’t have a problem with genuine cases, I do with others, which I believe is far more than most of us appreciate.
Coming across the Chanel in an inflatable shouldn’t be seen as an action with no consequences for both those availing themselves of the service of traffickers nor the traffickers themselves.
Just my penny worth.
Of course it does. You can only apply for asylum when you reach the UK. There is no other way. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Of course it’s not. You can’t legitimise an illegal entry from France into the UK by stating it’s for asylum purposes. It’s down to interpretation, circumstance and passage of time. This is an except from a pro asylum web site.
In reference to migrants attempting to cross the Channel to get from France to the UK, Boris Johnson said “If you come illegally, you are an illegal migrant, and I’m afraid the law will treat you as such.”
This is not correct in all cases.
Although it’s certainly true that crossing the Channel without authorisation isn’t a legal way to enter the UK, Article 31 of the UN Refugee Convention states that refugees cannot be penalised for entering the country illegally to claim asylum if they are “coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened” provided they “present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence”.
A lot depends here on how to interpret which country people are “coming directly from”. It could be argued, for instance, that as the people crossing the channel are coming directly from France—which is not the country they initially fled—they don’t have the right to claim asylum in the UK.

Article 14 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:
“Everyone has the right to seek and enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.”
Upon arrival in the U.K. you can apply for asylum.
There are only two very limited government schemes that allow safe routes to enter the country to seek asylum. Therefore, for the vast majority of refugees, there is no safe way for them to enter the U.K. to seek asylum, which is why people are crossing the Channel to reach the UK. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

as for lifeboat involvement my family has in the last ten years donate £30k to the RNLI...my will allows them £80k as donation...i would like to think they would use it for genuine rescue...if MOD and borderforce were on station ...no need for RNLI
also...genuine rescue for others in need would be at risk...lets not forget its manned by volunteers
lets not forget those coming get hotel...3 meals a day...dental/medical help..£38 a week and many free to walk around our cities without restrictions..prepare yourself you will be paying for all this...kick on..keep smilin

The RNLI has vowed to continue rescuing people “without judgement or preference” as it is bombarded with hateful emails as part of a far-right campaign. The lifeboat charity has been targeted over operations involving migrant boats in the English Channel, which are coordinated by government agencies.
