P006A Inlet Manifold ??

Hi all,

Driving home from work last night, I got a restricted performance message and restricted performance - D4 had no power. I checked with the IID and got the following message:

I cleared it, but it came back when I got to a hill or asked for more power.

I’ve had a look this morning and this is what I’ve found:

Is it likely the inlet manifold? Car is on 137k. What are we talking for replacement costs if so?

If you can't see a crack I would suggest doing a smoke test to determine that it is a cracked inlet manifold.

Cost of replacing 1 inlet manifold is around £800. A lot of people suggest replacing both inlet manifolds on the basis that if one has cracked the other will probably soon go as well. Cheaper to replace both at the same time.

Try spraying some water over the inlet manifold with the engine running. Will bubble if cracks present. This is how I found mine.

Thanks guys, I will have another look.

Is it worth replacing both sides at the same time.

I’m being quoted about £1850 (inc vat) for genuine parts fully fitted for both sides. Painful!

That sounds a tad on the high side.

I had both sides done in August 2020 which cost £1,300 (inc VAT)

Are you going through a LR dealership or a good independent?

I was advised to get both done at the same time.

Thanks for the info.

I’ve tried a couple of local Indy’s and they are both quoting similar, with varying lead times to do the repairs.

I guess it’s inflation from 2020, with everyone putting their prices up!

I guess I could phone LR dealership for a comparison!

not a bad price, I was quoted £2900 by a local independent specialist, I then got quotes from several other local ones lowest I got was £1900. I then looked further a field one in Yorkshire £1400ish.

in the end I found a guy that mobile that knows his way around land rovers, £1100 with Gen inlets.

So I’m not 100% sure what the issue is now.

I drove the D4 to the garage yesterday and during the drive, I didn’t get any warnings or drop in power, but I did notice what seemed like a nosier turbo, which happened whilst the first turbo was operating. More of a louder boosting sound (wooshing) - more like a Td5 defender with the ventilation flaps on the dash open! It sounded like it was coming from the right hand side and lower down, towards the front wheel, whilst I was in the drivers seat.

So on the drive, that’s the only thing that really suggested an issue! I haven’t driven it since the fault appeared and I didn’t drive it on the motorway, but it didn’t seem to throw any faults whilst either turbo powered up.

Any ideas?
