Rats

So what a delight in trying to get rid of rats , Again Big Cry

Had an issue before but thought they had all gone, must have seen 6-8 rats running along the top of my fence at the bottom of my garden this week

Kept all rubbish etc in a bin, lid always kept shut , one gained access underneath my bathroom floor via the smallest hole in the corner of the panel

Not just me as neighbours also seeing them in there gardens , using bait traps , so god knows if there’s a big nest somewhere , don’t mind admitting worrying seeing winter is on its way

So put poison in the bathroom, as can control that by keeping the door shut so candy can’t get in , after 7 x days no more scratching , lifted floorboards nothing , they kindly left a present on one of my pipes Big Cry

Also seen some holes around the edge of my concrete slab in the back garden, have been mixing up sugar and baking powder and putting down the holes before blocking off with wire , actually managed to kill one as it came out a hole, was instant as I had a club hammer in my hand

One thing is may i pick ur brains plse , wonder if I lay 8-12” wide of chicken wire flat onto the dirt around the edge of the slab then 2-3” of cement on top , or do u think there’s better ways plse

Dread to think what it’s like to deal with rats on farms/ small holdings etc

Many thks as always

Had an issue many years ago in a galaxy far, far away (well Usk) when we were feeding the birds. Long and short of it, council paid to have extermination peeps sent out and it was sorted at no cost to me. And the birds go peckish. Whistle Whistle

See what is did there, peckish? Laughing Laughing

Getting my coat. Thumbs Up

Rats can chew through chicken wire. So I’d layer it.

The most humane “trap” I’ve seen are these:

There are not many cats that will tackle a rat, you've got a good one there Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Many thks as didn’t Realise that , will indeed do that with the chicken wire

Many thks, Looks an exceptionally well thought out design . Have one of the large rat boxes with the trap inside , best results I’ve had is the sugar and baking powder , didn’t realise they couldn’t burp

Has taken around 6-7 days for the poison not to be touched in the bathroom , must have used around 15 x blocks so assume it was more than one rat underneath the floor

Thks again

Plus 1 , my god the size of these rats , including there tail must be a foot long

Was always told if u see a white rat there’s a big nest , alas don’t know how true that is

Ps, felt really sorry for the Australian farmers that had massive mice outbreaks

Get yourself a couple of Jack Russells . They will make short work of them. I’m sure there used to be an informal organisation that would come with their Jack Russells and clear the place out for you. The most efficient rat killers I have ever seen were a pair of Mongoose. Fast and deadly but not your most domesticated animal by a long shot.
Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.
