Cruise control acceleration
Hi folks I’m new here. I’ve had a good search but not found anybody with the same issue.
My 2009 discovery 4 hse accelerates when you activate cruise control, regardless of the speed setting,
Normally it drops a gear and goes till you cancel it.
sounds like the "+" button is shorted or stuck maybePete

The selected cruise speed would rise then, mine can be set at 40 but continues to accelerate till you chicken out 😂

Hi Jadams, did you ever get to the bottom of your accelerating D4. I have the same issue. When you set the cruise control the car goes for it.
I noticed on other forums that there is a bit of a link between the parking break and the cruise control. I have just had the plastic cogs in the marking module replaced and it is since I got it back that I have noticed the issue with the cruise control.

Do you mean when you resume or just when you press set?
I always find the acceleration too aggressive when resuming cruise speed.
My way around it is to accelerate to speed at a reasonable rate and then when i get to the speed I want hit the resume or set button accordingly.Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green

When using set function, speed just keeps on creeping up. Not as aggressively as resume but like a moderate throttle press. Not as strong as just keeping set pressed.
I've tried using the cruise control buttons to navigate the iid tool menus and it seems to work as expected. So don't think the switchpack is at fault.

May i ask a daft question please with relation to the cruise control
Could a faulty wheel speed sensor or maybe a faulty brake pedal switch cause the above issues plse
Or could variable speed cruise control create the vehicle to slowly speed up
What about non standard tyre sizes ??
Just always find things like this very interesting

I think it is unlikely because the speed is read digitally by the ipc display. If an abs sensor was faulty a dtc would show.

Are the sensors that are fitted passenger front and drivers rear also the ABS sensors plse , thanks
Funny enough downloaded the D4 steering wheel cruise control manual as I fitted a D4 steering wheel in my D3 , as I assumed when active it would stay the same speed down hill, but alas it stated that was normal, of course understand the D4 is a completely different system and different in what ur discussing

Abs sensors are fitted.to all wheels and use a reluctor ring to measure rotation. If a wheels slows down brake pressure is removed to avoid lock up, or in the special programs for off road, the abs sensor.can see wheels.spinning through loss 9f traction and then apply brakes to just that wheel. Doing this transfers all torque to wheel doing the work on the same axle.

No probs, we all do it lol
If you want to keep a steady speed downhill, use hill descent control and modify speed with cruise control plus or minus. At least that is how it works on a d4. Just don't go mad on a big hill or the brakes will get quite hot

That’s a good idea and understand where ur coming from , as a side note when I’ve gone down very steep hills (without cruise control) being an auto I’ve normally put it into sport and taken it down a gear manually

as karl is saying...the buttons also enable you to adjust hill decent speed
