Battery Help please
Please help….the wonderful Battery Low Please Start Engine sign is coming on, I replaced the small battery 3 years ago but I don’t think it’s ever had a main battery change to my knowledge (2014). Is there any way of testing both batteries ? And is it simply a case of replacing the faulty battery, thanks in advance 👍300 Tdi R reg

It’s the main battery that needs attention, not the ss battery.
Do you know how old it is, or have you tried a top up charge?
Just change it for something suitable if in any doubt.Discovery 4 HSE SDV6

There aren't many things I'd recommend Halfrauds for, but batteries is a no brainer.
Join their free level of Motor Club and fitting is free, including BMS reset.
Better still, get a Trade Card and you get a hefty discount too..

Having looked up what I bought- as their website suggested a lower spec one - I realised that, as it's a stop/start car, you should be fitting an AGM battery..

I fitted Halfords AGM battery AGM019 in May 2019 at a cost of £147.20
It's still working, but I'm not impressed & wouldn't fit another Halfords battery, but would go for Bosch or Varta (manufactured by Bosch).

Hi, the ss battery is 3 years old but the main battery is the original (2014), I have tried a top up but it’s having no effect 👍300 Tdi R reg

I would suggest changing the main battery as soon as.
The Discovery is very temperamental if it detects a low battery and will soon start throwing out lots of other error codes!

New battery fitted, (exide)… installer managed to blow the OBD fuse so no power 🙄, all good now, recommends a ctek charger to keep in tip top condition 🙏🙏300 Tdi R reg

This is good advice I think. I'll try it.
I've ignored Halfords for years always gone to Europarts - "any part, any car, 30 minutes wait at least at the counter"
Recently rediscovered Halfords on a Sunday when I needed a battery super quick for my van. Great price and a choice in stock.

I used to use Euro Car Parts a lot but recently their pricing seems to have become uncompetitive even with their discount codes.
Just got a new clutch & DMF kit for the VW.

Prompted by this thread I've just signed up for the Halfords motor club and also looked at the requirements for the trade card, one of which is being an engineer. It didn't specify the type of engineer and apparently one of the proofs they'll accept is a business card so I filled in the online application and trotted off to Halfords with one of my business cards. Told the guy on the till what I'd done and that I'd come to collect the card, he just handed me the card and asked me to sign it, that was it, didn't even want to see proof of eligibility.
