Buying D4 after 6 year in a D3 -any hints or things to check
As we the title I've loved every day of D3 ownership but feel now is a good time to move up to a D4.
I am going to test drive a 1 owner 2015 Euro 6 HSE on monday. Had a look at it on Friday and it looks good to me with 86000 miles and fsh with cambelt change done.
!y D3 is an SE with no sunroof to leak but reading here I should expect wet carpets on a d4 every few years?
Is there any other issues I should be aware of, please?Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

Nothing?
Can I use my gap tool to check for faults without registering it to a different car?Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

Yes, you should be able to do this as a minimum.

Keep the D3.
Certain features of the D3 are better than the D4, especially as yours has no sunroof

Not sure I would allow somebody to just plug in their gap tool!

I'd advise you make sure you are getting what you expect.
When I was looking for a top spec D4 at the end of 2019, with all the toys and Gizmos, I was surprised at just how much the spec varied.
I was looking at @2016 D4 HSE, HSE Lux, and Landmarks, which as it turned out appeared to be built with whatever the factory had in stock at the time.
I was particularly keen to get the high spec ICE system, which should have been in all 3, but I viewed an HSE locally that didn't have it and narrowly avoided travelling quite a way to look at an HSE Lux that didn't have it.
I also remember seeing one HSE for sale online that didn't have armrests fitted to the front seats.
Oh, regarding sunroofs, yes they are a pain if you can't be bothered to clean the drains out occasionally, but if you want other features of the higher spec vehicles you'd have to find one that was specifically built for the first owner without a sunroof.
My D3 leaked anyway, not through the sunroof, but through the roof body seam.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Thanks for the replies. I've had a test drive and everything worked. Low range box, suspension up and down, everything heated got warm. The spec I was looking for was the heated steering wheel and i got that
It's a one owner vehicle that looks very well cared for. Belts have been done and never had a fail or advisory on the MOT.
Paid a deposit and now can't wait until next week when I am due to pick it up.Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.
