EPB fault

Just got back home and when I applied the EPB it squealed at me and then gave me an EPB fault.

I just read the codes and initially got C1A46-64 (68) Actuator plausibility check ..., then when I pushed down on the button it tried and failed to release. Checked the codes again and it's now added U3000-4B (2B) Control module - system internal failure - over temperature.

I've tried pulling the wire loop and it comes up easily until it's about level with the top of the centre console and then won't go any further. I've no idea how farit should come up but it doesn't seem to be
having any effect. I've also tried going forwards and backwards but it won't release. Is it worth trying the unjam procedure in the Gap tool?

Any advice gratefully received.

When this happened to me, I had to pull that wire so hard I thought it would snap. It didn't snap, and the EPB released.

Mine was caused by a disintegrated brake shoe in the off-side drum. Just collapsed into pieces when opened up. I rebuilt the drum on each side with all new bits, did the de-latch on GAP tool and then did the setting in procedure (see Bodsys Brake Bible on here) and it has worked perfectly since. That was a couple years ago.

Luckily I didn't need to touch the EPB module at all, it isn't a pleasant job from what I hear.

When you say delatch @Moleshome do mean to reset the of the module? I've replaced shoes and disc but when I had similar problem but when I applied handbrake, I just go similar intermittent screaching (not continuous like it did when it jammed) and brake hasn't engaged. I don't have GAP tool.

Getting these two fault codes:

U0128-00 (2F) Lost communication with parking brake control module

U0128-63 (2F) Lost communication with parking brake control module - Algorithm based failure - circuit/component protection time out

When I reinstated the new shoes into the rear assembly (after a bush fix to get them out!), the module made an initial screeching but didn't latch anything. Now it's silent. Nothing coming up on dash about brake fault.

Any clues? BTW, it's not jammed. I suspect I'll need to remove the module but I thought with the IIDTool, I could 'latch' but not seeing that option as part of the ECU fault.

Edit> Hang on.... I removed the bloody fuse to stop the brake binding on again. Let me refit and see what happens!!

Seem to be getting nowhere fast here. Nothing on the GAP tool seems to do the latch/unmount. Frustratingly, I engaged the parking brake and it's bound up again. Emergency release not freeing up that same side. So again faced with a jammed on brake. Surely not the shoes as they are brand new. Could the module, which keeps on winding itself, just get confused and go too far, pulling the cable to the point it binds on the brake shoes?

Incidentally, one of the symptoms of a failing battery is a malfunctioning EPB module…

Yeah, battery was low yesterday but the initial fault happened before that and only on the one side. I'm pretty confident the module needs unwound and reset.

Anyone tackled the module on a MY2012 D4 and figured if it's easier to get out from the side or from the rear (underneath)?

Just bumping this - I'm seriously at a loss as to how to get the module out from my Disco. Access from rear is restricted by the subframe that houses the spare wheel winch cable. And there's very little chance of getting to the front of it to remove the torx bolts as the prop and other furniture is in the way. Even if I did miraculously get the panel off it, I'd not manage to my hands up to latch it or take the gears out.

Really would appreciate some advice from anyone who's mamaged this. Seems a lot easier on D3's or models that don't have the spare subframe in the way.

EPB Module not working

I have the dreaded screech , pulled emergency release cable, bought and fitted the repair kit for EBB
discovered that new shoes were required, these have bene fitted, now to re-attach the handbrake, my partner messed for 5 hours at the weekend in the end could get the handbrake to go on but wouldn't come off, does any one have any greatly appreciated tips please, at my wits end and sick of seeing the flashing warning lamp now Sad

1. As per the Workshop Manual, the first pinpoint test is confirm the condition of the battery.
(I am not convinced this was satisfactorily done)
It is premature to think there is a module issue at this very moment in time.

“charged” means nothing.
Precisely, what is the resting voltage on the battery following 6 hours rest. If you are below 12.6 v, it needs replacement.
