Royal Mail - no longer fit for purpose.

The strikes are the least of the issues, we have literally not had a delivery in 3 plus weeks round here. Thought it may help if a made a complaint. After 10 days and still no delivery, this was there response:

Quote:

Thank you for contacting us.

I’m sorry you haven't received mail for a number of days and can fully understand your concerns. Every item of mail is important to us and we typically pride ourselves on the high level of service we provide, so I’m very sorry we appear to have let you down on this occasion.

I’ve reported this issue to the manager of your local delivery office and recorded the details under reference XXXXXXXXXXXX.

I’ve also checked information on deliveries in your area. I’m sorry, there does appear to be a local issue and we’re working hard to fix it. We’ll deliver all post as soon as we can and I’m sorry for the inconvenience caused while we resolve this issue.

Thanks again for reporting this issue and I hope this resolves your complaint. If you still need help, please visit our Help and Support Centre at www.royalmail.com/help.

Luckily SWMBO has not had quite the same level of shocking service to her online customers, but she literally depends on Royal Mail to do all the deliveries, these are small light weight letter sized deliveries, the only realistic UK alternative is Evri (but even with a big volume discount are more expensive) Overseas deliveries are at least 3 times the cost to a point it is not a viable option at all.

So how have things been aloud to go so badly wrong at Royal Mail ? Since privatisation, (which IMO should never have been aloud in the first place )they are simply not fit for purpose as UK delivery service.

I'm afraid they are very much "Turkeys voting for Christmas" . The country will begin to realise there are other methods of transmitting/receiving mail. Of course, some people will end up worse off, as the "universal service" model will no longer exist, and people in far flung areas will have to pay more, or get no service at all.

They don't care about letters. I spoke to a postie a while ago as he was struggling with the junk mail through our letterbox and he said that the focus is parcel deliveries (see later....) - they have to pay a penalty of £6.75 for late parcel delivery, but £0.00 for late letter delivery....

Now, parcels..... I got a parcel through my letterbox addressed to someone who has a very different, foreign-sounding surname to my bog-standard British one. The parcel was incorrectly addressed - but it was a paid, signed-for service. No one was at home that day, so how was it signed for?

And when I went along to the sorting office to pick up a parcel after a card was left through the door, I waitied 15 minutes behind a guy who was told that they couldn't locate his parcel - could it have been left with a neighbour? Unlikely, was the response - it was a signed-for servcice and contained a coin worth £1,500.

We have no issues here with the PO. Great postie, small local post office in the village store and really helpful staff in the nearest depot. Also, never had any post or parcels lost with Royal Mail. Even Evri is good, in fact never had any issues with the delivery companies. Now I've jinxed it Laughing

Our posties are fantastic and the service is generally excellent.
I don't think my son's business could survive without the universal service obligation and I hate to think of the hassle and expense of getting small items to us without it.

Our postie, and the service in general, are excellent. Wouldn't swap them for the private sector alternative, that's for sure.

We once received a card from the post office to say that a parcel had been left at our local Post Office because the postman could not find our address!

When I picked up the parcel and asked who put the bloody card through our letterbox then she said that it was our local postman. W the actual F?

I still can't get my head round that to this day.

It is quite a common practice to put a card through the letterbox rather than deliver the parcel especially if there is a large number of parcels to deliver that day on the walk as they don't want to carry the all weight and bulk

My postie is great, loves a blether (very militant so not around at the moment - and there’s football on! Laughing ) and always gets up the track if possible but does insist on leaving packages either in the coal bunker or next to the parcel box… go figure? Laughing
