Recently have seen different videos of that ford.
Now there was a shot with a sign saying road flooded and ROAD CLOSED
As I understand it once a road is closed officially your vehicle insurance is invalid.
Now there could be some 'interesting' insurance claims being summitted.
Personally if I saw that sign, saw the depth marker, observed the speed/colour of the water I would consider carefully the wisdom of entering that ford. That would be me in my 300TDi Defender, on 33" tyres etc. Would also enter the water slowly and with caution.
Locals obviously think it is good spectator sport. I wonder how many of those 'egg' drivers on?

Your vehicle insurance is unlikely to be invalid, why would it. You are covered of road, in private areas and for accidentally damage an accidents on fully comprehensive policies.
Insurance companies and enough reasons to try to get out of the paying, we probably don't want them to try that... What is you were turning round just after a road closed sign and an unrelated incident occurred?
Unfortunately stupidity can affect anyone as well call all be wise after the factMike

The ford is not far from where I live and there’s always a few videos when we have a good dollop of rain. The road closed sign may not have appeared a the point this video was shot, but more than likely it was there. The vast majority of drivers are local and will know what happens when the water level is high. They will also know it’s easily avoidable with a couple of miles detour. Therefore, I conclude that they are crossing it for fun, or bravado.
Long may they continue to provide me with entertainment. The actual risk of injury is low, and I do enjoy a bit of schadenfreude. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

My understanding is that if a public highway is officially closed then your right to drive down the road has been removed, hence potential issue with insurance companies.
Insurance companies work on risk scenarios, now I am not sure that any insurance company will look favourably on an idiot ignoring road closed sign, ignoring the flood depth marker, exceeding the maximum wading depth of their vehicle resulting in damage to their vehicle.

I suggest that you should check your policy very carefully before assuming that you are covered off-road.
My policy expressly excludes driving more than, IIRC 50 metres, off-road.
I live on a byway open to all traffic ("BOAT"), and had to get a special extension to the cover to drive to shoots & point to points, although the insurers accepted by argument that a BOAT was not off-road, even though unsurfaced.

This raises the question that I have never found a definitive answer to.....
For a road to be closed, a Traffic Regulation Order is required and the "flying motorbike" (for no motor vehicles) sign or "blank circle" sign (for no vehicles) must be displayed. In this scenario, it is illegal to use the road in contravention of the TRO.
However, the often used red rectangular "Road Closed" sign appears to have no legal status other than a warning sign. Infact, it does not even get a mention in the government's publication "know your traffic signs" https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/g...-signs.pdf
Does ignoring red rectangular road closed sign actually constitute any sort of motoring offence or is it just an information sign as indicated in the highway code? Obviously there is a risk that you will encounter an impassable hazard or danger beyond the sign but does the sign really close the road?MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Plus 1 ^^^
Also Seeing some of those idiots really putting there foot down, would be a horrific crash or fatality as they wouldn’t stand a chance stopping in dry conditions let alone after driving through a Ford
