Hi - looking to pick up a main battery today.
The easy options bring either a Halfords 019 AGM (5 year warranty) or a Lion 019 AGM (3 year warranty) as both I can collect today and are circa £195 (Halfords and ECP).
ECP have more options but closer to £300.
Any thoughts on the Halfords battery? Sounds a bit ‘own brand’ but I assume it’s a rebranded Yuasa or something.

Halfords are Yuasa.
Get a tradecard and shave some money off the cost. £157 vs £200
Join the free version of their motoring club and battery gets fitted for free too. Limit one per year. .

I have not been very happy with the battery I purchased from Halfords a couple of years ago.
It has a 5 year guarantee, which I think may well be needed, but I'm concerned about what happens if it fails when I'm not in the UK.
I wouldn't buy batteries from them again.

I had a look and it seems like the Halfords motoring club free version doesn’t do free fitting any more?

Operating a fleet of boats we get through half a dozen batteries (or more) a year. Having tried many different 'trade' suppliers we now use Halfords for most replacements - they honour the five-year warranty, but only after doing a full test of the failed unit. This I am happy with as most of our failures are due to frost damage and at least one of the cells is u/s.
That said, the replacement bettery for my D3 failed two months before the warranty expired. I took it back to the store (in the car), not expecting them to replace it, but they did! However, they also put a note on the invoice to say it would not be replaced again.
I should perhaps add that due to the number of betteries we get through I have to share my visits around a number of stores for fear of being banned! Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

I would take a second hand battery over a new Lion battery. Those I have experienced have all been very poor and failed quickly. Given your options go with the Halfords battery.

Not sure the Halfords AGM in my Ampera has lasted well.
Away from it at the moment so won't be able to test it until end of next week but I've already bought a replacement...giving the Exide AGM from Tayna a go.
Encouraged by the comments on Halfords standing by the warranty though. Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Thanks all.
BTW, For Exide Tanya recommend the 017 and do not list an 019. Is the Exide 017 equivalent or a replacement for the 019?
(I checked the car and it looks like it had an JLR/LR badged Exide battery in it, could be the original from factory still)

Get a Yuasa AGM through Halfords.
You’ll get an excellent battery (rather than their own branded one) plus Halford’s 5yr warranty.
For the small stop start battery, get an Exide …… but don’t buy it through JLR.
When I changed mine, JLR wanted around £130, bought it via eBay for £39 (just didn’t have the JLR logos) ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

We fit many exide batteries & have be happy with the low failure rate. They tend to be over spec when fitting unlike many others which are already 100 amps short of spec when new.
AGM batteries don't last as long as older lead acid.
The correct exide number is EK950

Had 2 warranty replacements from Halfords without issue one after 4 years and one at nearly 5 - just keep a copy of the receipt and they seem to be good for the exchange. Must stop buying shiny toys....

Thanks all. Popped in a Halfords AGM yesterday and all is well
It’s a heavy lump of battery though! I have a couple of lightweight batteries in the track cars <4kg for a 096 medium sized battery. They need to make that tech universal to save human spines!
