what it shows on the dash is unlikely to be accurate, you should knock off 2-3 mpg from that figure for a real number.
My figures in the original post are actual, calculated by an app based on £ into the tank and miles driven.2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

Last week I returned from a week long trip to the Alps.
Outward journey (over 2 days and an overnight ferry) was 1,024 miles, average speed of 69mph and true average mpg of 35.3 in a 3.0 D4 (tank full to tank full).
This was helped in no small part by the fact that I encountered absolutely no roadworks, holdups or delays between Rotterdam and Meribel.
c.400 miles running round the Alps was significantly worse than this, and return journey was also lower at 31.2mpg due to faster speeds on French motorways and slower speeds in UK due to traffic and roadworks (different route via Channel Tunnel)
Edit: Despite running standard 255 55 R19 tyres both my GPS and phone showed that the car's speedo significantly over-reads. 130kph on dash equated to 122 in realityCurrently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

It certainly isn't a cheap car to run but looking at it as a Swiss-army-knife 2.5 ton+ 4WD 7 seater come transit van, the MPG is pretty good considering!
I did finally find the eco-mode on these... terrain response Grass/Gravel/Snow - keeps the MPG from dipping too much in the winter months as it makes you drive like a nun!
Edit: Calculated MPG from a spreadsheet I’ve been maintaining and getting 26.7 mpg over the last year. I’ve mellowed out in my driving style so getting high 20s consistently but driving at autobahn speeds few times a year kills the average.
Pretty much exactly what I averaged long term with my D4 Landmarks. I could get close to 30mpg on a motorway run, but frequent, if short, off road use dragged down the average.
Approx. 5-6mpg less than I average long term in the SDV8. Which I put down to better aerodynamics, less weight(?) and more torque.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I'd also add I never use start-stop as always found it too gruff in diesels. Muscle memory at this point to turn it off when I start it up (unfortunately I don't believe you can code it to off by default like I've done in other cars).
Prefer to spend a bit more on fuel than any associated issues further down the line with long term ownership.
