Since I don’t have to worry about a DPF here in South Africa, I will go for the shell Helix Ultra, which I started using 2 years back in my TD5. Fingers crossed…..
Will also check differences before and after.
LR has used the Castrol Magnatec A5 so far in the Disco4, but obviously 5W30 instead of the w40….
If this works out great, I will also use this oil in the Puma 2.4, which also doesn’t have a DPF….

Slightly off subject, but still a question about the quality of oil:
I notice you have 2 x 5 litre containers. How long do you believe the leftover oil in a sealed but opened container (presume yours takes nearly 6 litres like mine) will last without affecting its quality?
ThanksGary

There is no one answer, different manufacturers quote different values. This isn’t helped by the scent of self interest, if you can’t use it you have to buy more after all.
Storage temperature has an effect as well and to analyse the performance of oils would be very expensive. Only some manufacturers even put on a date so how old is it when you buy it?A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

You can use that oil generally. I am not sure what the HTHS value would be though, as the two (C2&C3 )differ there.
Make sure it has 3.5(C3 spec), this will give you better protection than the 2.9 of the C2 spec. IMHO….

I have own a Disco 4 2013 (L319). I am really confused what oil to use. The dealer recommended is Shell Edge C1 which is very costly. I want to use Castrol branded oil but not sure which one 5W30 or 5W40 and my car does not have DPF, maybe one can use DPF version oil in a non DPF fitted car?
Can anyone help me choose which Castrol oil for my Disco 4

xyplex,
Lots of opinions and options on this.
IMHO you should use a 5W40 oil to have good oil pressure even after some dilution.
Since you don’t have a DPF, you don’t have to use a low ash content oil and chose one with a HTHS rate.
I personally use for my vehicle, also with no DPF the Shell Helix Ultra.
Your Castrop version of that type would be the Castrol Magnatec A3/B4: https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-205942-castro...tid=315647
Note that those oils are not as required by LR specs, as they need to comply with fuel economy standards and prefer to use lower viscosity oils, which in my opinion do not protect the engine as good as the ones above.
If you would have a DPF, one could use the Magnatec C3, which is rated for DPF, but also has good HTHS grade.
Whatever oil you chose, my recommendation is to change it every 10.000km …., but that’s just IMHO.
Hope this helped….
Cheers
