2012 D4 steering wheel audio controls not working

Has anybody had this problem before and know how to fix it? Right side button works OK, left one does not all of a sudden. Saw somwhere that WD40 contact cleaner might fix the problem??

Has the button gone floppy? I had a couple on the CD player go floppy, No longer work. I believe it is caused by a plastic pin on the back of the button that breaks.
I have seen them on EBay, but never the one I need.

Someone else may know where to source them.

No, it's not gone floppy, just not working. Only just bought the car, was working for 4 days, not working now.

Assuming the D4 is the same as the D3 the steering wheel buttons are not a simple 'push to make' style.

They work off a resistive network, which in simple terms means that each press of the buttons causes a different resistance in the circuit which the head unit monitors and decides what needs to be done if there is a change.

So any small issue causing a change to the resistance in the circuit confuses the head unit.
Perhaps something has been spilt on the wheel before you brought the car and it's dried.
Possibly even 'over enthusiastic' use of cleaning chemicals.

Have you had the airbag out to check the connector from the sub-loom to the clock spring?

I think, although am not sure, that the left and right hand button circuit travels through the clock spring independently, so it could be a clock spring issue.
Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

I had thought about taking the airbag off and having a look at the connections/clock spring, might just go back to the dealer first and get him to fix it 🤣 If I don't get any joy I'm going to have to dig in it seems!

so, I replaced the clock spring, cleaned both button modules, put it all back together and hey presto!… All buttons now working. That’s the good news. Bad news is the air bag light is now on 🙄 Is this common, is it just a case of getting the fault reset?
