Anyone going over the Alps? - Avoid the Gotthard

Only for anyone holidaying in the next few weeks … avoid the Gotthard tunnel if possible and go the long way round… it’s quicker..

We are currently in Italy doing the Northern lakes then heading down to the Amalfi coast however anyone else going please avoid said tunnel .. they have closed one tunnel down which means all traffic is filtered into one.. they try and regulate the tunnel entrance over ten miles using traffic lights and start starting the traffic but it will add 2-3 hours at busy times.. stationary in the heat..

Currently 34 degrees. … fortunately our air con works!

There is only one tunnel with 2 lanes, one going each way.

This time of the year it is usually very busy. A couple of hours is not unheard of.
