This strikes me as highly suspect and too much of a coincidence.
My wallet went AWoL over the weekend. I reported to HSBC and to MBNA the loss of the cards . Yesterday, I received a fraudulent call purporting to be from Visa's fraud department. People who have just lost cards must be the most susceptible to this scam, so it seems too much of a coincidence not to be planned. It smelt fishy so I didn't return their call on a premium-rate number as they hoped.
The only people who know I have lost my wallet are: HSBC; MBNA; anyone who might have found my wallet. Am I being too cynical?

No.
Assuming cards reported stolen quickly so thieves have limited time and no access to PIN so contactless only spending. (Unless they try online purchasing)
With enough info from a gullible victim, they can clean out bank accounts..

The biggest mistake the card and band industries have done is increase the amount for the touch card payment system.
£100 every time.
Why wait, just go for it and enjoy life.

Contactless isn't completely unlimited, the card itself as well as the terminal will assess volume and velocity of spend and push to authorise either by the merchant acquiring bank or even the card issuer after a much lower amount than you may think. Also fraud/loss hotlists are still pushed to terminals frequently. A move to ditch plastic altogether and only allow contactless payments via mobile phone wallets will be the future.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Mobile phone wallets...
My nephew was robbed in central London recently. A group of 16 years olds with machetes in an underpass close to London Bridge on a Saturday night...
First thing they wanted was him to open his phone and 'transfer his crypto' to one of there's. Next thing they wanted was to see what his phone wallet held in terms of cards and whether face id was on or off..
They could always take the real wallet I suppose but tech savy robbers worry me...Jim
