Good evening,
Looking for a bit of advice..
I’ve got a 2014 Discovery 4 that’s currently covered 92,000 miles and when I bought it there was no service history so I have no idea wether the belts have ever been replaced. I’m aware they should be changed at 7 years or 112,000 miles
I’m driving to Spain and back in 2 weeks and was wondering what opinions people have who know more about this than I do regarding wether I should just bite the bullet and have them changed before I go..
Anyone had any issues with the belts in the past?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I think it depends how well you sleep at night
as you know it could be well over due on time for the change or it could have done already and there is no way of telling, if your sleeping ok now then I would not rush to change it but certainly think about getting it changed for your piece of mind.
ISTR the rear belt failing on a D4 (fuel pump) is an engine stop but not bits meeting each other internally, belts have been known to fail so
mind you have you heard the word "Crank" mentioned if you are still sleeping well
just think about adding the belt change to your planned maintenance sooner rather than later if you plan on keeping it Transit! 2019

I think trying to find somewhere that will do it in the next two weeks may force your hand to risk it. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Make sure you have good break down and repatriation insurance, you may need it
Get the front timing belt changed if possible is my advice the rear can be done when you get back It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the replies, I’ve booked it in with Land Rover a week on Monday to be done, booked the 7 year service which I believe includes both belts! Defo recon an oil change would be a good idea too so might as well get it all done

Don’t assume they will do the belts - ask and get it confirmed. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

It may be too late, but I wonder why you are using a JLR dealer rather than an "indy" ?

Not wanting to freak you out, but is the LR Dealer a reputable one that actually has the technicians who understand the D4. We do have a lot of the shiny mega-million pound showrooms in Yorkshire that are great at selling the shiny new vehicles but from personal experience pretty inept at servicing them.
That said, you could ring Bradford LR to get a price as they seem to quote lower than most dealers and then see wherever you are taking it will match the price - I did that at my 7 year. I wouldn't recommend Bradford to do the job, just use them for a quote.
On another point, have you asked the LR dealers to see what service history they can see for your vehicle on the LR systems, as the service history is all recorded electronically these days, no service books. They should be able to see if that vehicle has ever been serviced at a main dealer.
If I was you though you have no service history on the vehicle I would definitely strike up a relationship with a good Indy rather than using the dealers.
Good luck!

I’ve checked the online record myself and it only shows the first service it ever had at the main dealer then nothing.. I believe I bought it as a finance repossession and had been parked up for a while I think!
It’s a good motor like, I’ve done loads of upgrades… xenon’s, leather memory seats (heated front and rear), cubby cooler, front bumper with parking sensors and fogs.. so I’m planning to keep it, so I’d rather use the main dealer, more expensive I know but I’ve always used main dealer with my Mercedes and just prefer it, plus I recon having the belts done and the dealer service record updated will hold the value if I choose to sell..
It’s going to JCT600 in Doncaster

Hi,
I would be asking for an Itemised receipt as I thought they had 3 belts
timing belt and drive belt at the front and fuel pump belt at the rear
(which some dealers say "not worth changing )
sure there has been a recent thread where the Main dealer stated that?
enjoy your trip anyway
