Parking Aid problems

Discovery 3 2005 HSE.

My parking aid hasn't worked for some time. When I turn the ignition on, I get a 6 second beep from the back, the light flashes on the parking aid button, and if I press the parking aid button the flashing stops but the whole thing remains inactive.

I can not detect any activity from any of the 8 sensors, although they all seem OK when tested with a multi meter (10kohm between pins 1 & 2). I've tested the wiring from the module location to each sensor with a multi meter, it all checks out OK.

I've also tested the CAN wiring, 62 ohms between pins 7 and 14 into the loom, so both terminating resistors are correct.

I've purchased a brand new parking aid module (£130) which has made no difference, so there was probably nothing wrong with the old module.

The Parking Aid (even the new module) doesn't show up in my GAP IID BT tool, which it should do, under Live Values, which makes me think I'm dealing with a CAN BUS fault. (I also drive a RRS 2006, the Parking Aid does show up on the GAP Tool under Live Values on that vehicle).

The only thing I can think of now is the Junction Box - central, which may have had water damage in the past, although it looks clean and OK. I've only had the car for around 12 months, so I don't know what may have happened in the past.

Is it possible that the Junction Box - central may be messing with the Medium Speed CAN BUS, causing a fault in the parking aid system, but leaving the other items on the Medium Speed network OK?

Maybe someone could be good enough to confirm whether or not the Parking Aid does indeed show up in the GAP Tool on the D3 under Live Values? It may be different to the RRS.

Or does anyone have any ideas where the fault may lie? Thanks.

Hi

Found the wiring diagrams for u just in case u haven’t got them

Would indeed ensure there’s voltage from the fuses into the parking aid module ( pin 1 ign live ) to ensure that’s ok first then go from there

Hope that helps

well it's good you have an RRS as you should be able to sort it, as they are very similar.

When you say it doesn't show up in live values, do you mean you get N/A rather than 5m

It's a weird one. The flashing light should have stored a fault code.
Check under the CCF settings to ensure park sensors are set to FITTED. (e.g Rear or both).

Pete K, the parking aid module doesn't show up in the GAP tool at all. I attach a photo of the Live Values screen, Parking Aid should be there between Navigation and Parking Brake. Parking Aid doesn't show up in the CCF settings either. The Medium Speed CAN BUS doesn't seem to be seeing the Parking Aid module at all - and it's a brand new module. Every wire connected to the module has been checked out with a multi meter.

I've had the side panel of the left hand side of the boot off for about 3 months now, trying to get to the bottom of why the parking aid isn't working.

Surely the only thing left is the Junction Box Central, isn't that where the MS CAN BUS is controlled from? Thanks for any suggestions.

It should show up in the ccf regardless.
I guess you could disconnect it or pull fuse on your RRS to prove that.

I think a cjb replacement is unlikely to fix it.

Personally if I wanted working REAR sensors I would fit a jaguar 2001 xj8 park module.
Almost plug and play. A pin needs connecting to reverse lights. C0957 pin 6 to reverse light wire (green/brown?)
No diagnostics with it, so you would need confidence the sensors were ok or how to fix if they aren’t.

I notice the diagnostics socket has medium and high speed CAN connections.

So I would check the GAP IID is connecting to the medium CAN correctly. Dirty or open pins have been known.

C0040-11 MS CAN-L
C0040-3

All of those ECU's on your screen shot are HS CAN !

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but wondering if you have the below but for the Discovery 4?
