(RESOLVED)Mid handbrake adjustment and I have two questions. |
|
I'm midway through adjusting my handbrake and despite reading 2 manuals and watching a video I have questions.
When you adjust the wheel by turning with a screwdriver via the access hole. Do you "lift up" or "push down" to tighten it before then slackening off? It feels like lifting up is tightening as I got the hub to the point of not being able to manually turn it via "lifting up" on the star adjuster. I see conflicting words as in the bible it says "(move in the direction AWAY from the EPB spring to release and Towards to tighten up)" which I don't understand.
Now, (stupid alert) I left the car in Park so now having done the star adjuster and slackened I cant fully rotate the hub to get to the Alan bolt for the next bit. My manual says NOT to turn the ignition on having engaged brake service mode, but I need to do that to release the car from park. Should I refit the fusible link for the PB and then ignition on, out of park, redo the process for service mode and then remove the fusible link again? Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

Ah, watching a few more videos. I think it depends on which side your on (double doh) its UP on the left hand side (UK passenger) as that's "tightening" and down on the right hand side (drivers) as that's also "tightening" Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

you could take the fuse out for the handbrake then select neutral
adjusters go opposite ways on each side
when i do mine every six months i just put the h/brake in service mode select neutral jack up one wheel adjust it then loosen the allen bolt but don't bang the hub as you loosen all the rust inside the hub check the wheel rotates without dragging and if it does i just let one more click off do other side then remove the iid tool and just engage the h/brake then check there still not dragging when rotated job done
there really not as troublesome as people make out so long as there adjusted and lubed correctly please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou
