Is it safe to do an oil change with the DISCO3 by....
... raising the suspension to it's highest and then just sliding under the car or do I need to use jacks.
thanks in advance, just bought a disco 3 (TDV6) and want to change the oil (best oil suggestions?).

I would always use jacksjack stands or ramps. Do not work under or trust a lift jack alone.
Best oil is the one that meets the spec.

Not worth the risk. I'm always very aware that there is 2.7 tonnes of car above me when I'm under it. Be safe, axle stands every time.Richard

It's a really quick and easy way to change the oil etc, and I always did it that way on my D3.
However, I have some offcuts of Railway sleeper around the place and always had three lumps on top of each other under the chassis each side just in case. It would only drop @1in if it did drop, but never did.
Strangely on the D4, exactly the opposite is true.
Dropping the car down to access level makes it easier to reach the filter etc, and you can get away with a shorter hose on your suction pump.
If I knew what I know now about suction pumps, rather than being against them like I was, I'd have been finding a way to use one on the D3.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

@Nasher I too have been apprehensive about oil change pumps - do you use the manual type with attached container or one of the many electric pumps into a spare container?
Do you remove filter first to ensure its contents have drained down?2014 Discovery 4 HSE

I think mine is a Draper.
I had a previous one which had the option of connecting it up to my compressor, but it really wasn't worth the additional cost because it was actually quicker to just give the handle a couple of pumps occasionally than muck about with the compressor.
It really doesn't take any effort with the handle, and once you've created a vacuum it just carries on by itself, so I personally don't see the point of an electric one.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

I picked a 12v one up @ LIDL for , IIRC, a tenner a few weeks ago. May never get used unless I start doing "in-between " changes, but at that price seemed a no-brainer..
