Spare Wheel Damage

So, I’m now on my second spare wheel winch replacement (note for everyone, don’t wind it with anything like a drill or impact wrench, it’ll break it 🤦‍♂️)

However, the spare wheel is a full size alloy and very badly corroded where it runs against the chassis and has sat under the car for years.

Before I get this repaired, is there a way to stop this happening again? I can’t see anything out there on the market, and I’m aware that anything between the chassis and the wheel could trap dirt and water, so may already know the answer.

Ps I realise this is the wrong category for this post, but can’t see how to move it on my phone.

Well, besides the obvious of servicing it every now and then…

I'm with the above comment.

Now you know what damage leaving the spare un serviced will do I expect you will periodically lower it, clean it and pop it back.

I tend to rotate my spare through wheel changes from back to front adding a single new tyre so the rear has fresh new rubber at least every two years (and that's with a separate swap out for winters).

It gets very mucky under the car so probably not much you can do that won't act as a sponge for dirt and moisture...

Servicing...
